Awww, had to have our dog put to sleep last night
she was really old though and her back end kept going and she was having problems with her mouth etc.
My mum made an appointment for her to go in a few week ago but she couldn't do it. the dog (jess) was nearly 15 though and for a staffordshire bull terrier thats pretty long as they are prone to artheritis and stuff.
Anyways yesturday she wasn't doing too good so my mum rang and made an appointment for her to get put to sleep tonight. Like an hour after she rang doggie started having sort of seasures in its bed :( awww it was reallly horrible to watch! We were hoping she was just going to fall asleep but like the tough little bugger she was she wasn't having none of it. Anyways our local vet shut at 7pm and buy this time it was quater to 8 and because we decided she needed to go straight away and we were 3/4 of an hour after closing time they charged £100 instead of £40!! They said it was definatley time for her to go and her problems were neuralogical due to her being so old. Glad weve done it now though and got it over and done with at least she'll be in a better place. I really do feel sorry for my mum, the dog was like her little baby :( i mean...14 years is a long time!! Last night she said 'i really can;t wait for baby to come now so i'v got someone to snuggle upto on a night' :( :( awwww
Its amazing how attatched you can get to an animal and now i realise what i'm going to be like with my little boy and why mums are so protective of their children!!

Awwww Julie that's really sad

You will know from the recent posts on here that Sherlock and I both lost beloved pets recently and I know how desperately hard it is. I still cry on and off for ShePatch; I miss her and her spannery ways so much

Hope you and your mum feel better soon  sounds like you did the right thing for your doggie!

Aww it's always hard to lose a pet.
At least little doggy isn't suffering any more

Ahh thinking of you  I have a staffi called Jess as well. She is nearly 9 yrs. Hope you are ok.

Its so wierd the little things that you notice you did before that you don't have to do no more like closing the gates. My dad was going out to work this morning and was messing about outside and i nearly said 'Shut the bloody door or the dog will get out!!' awww. Or if i left some of my breakfast i'd give it to jess and i had to throw it in the bin this morning. And it does feel strangely lonely being here n the house without her! She had a really good life though. We burried her in the back garden and it does make me sad to think of her lying there under all that soil! Especially when it was sooo cold outside last night!!
I really can't wait for baby to come now...i can just imagine how spoilt he's going to get off his grandma now aswell!!

It must be wierd - Jess is very clingy to me and it will be strange when she goes. She has such a funny personality. Do you think you will get another one at some stage later? We got Jess as a rescue from the Staffi club in East Anglia, they re home loads of Staffis.

i'm not too sure. not for quite a while anyways. She was such a good dog aswell. Its really horrible how the papers make staffys out to be such horrible violent dogs when she was sooo loving and never bit or hurt anyone!! i think it all depends on the owner and how they bring the dog up...just like a baby really

awh pet
you have my sympathies, you get really close to your pets
im stupid over my cat, she nearly got run over by the skin of her teeth and i just went hysterical, i kept hugging her like an idiot
xx

Im a staffie owner too and i agree they get a bad press.

O I'm so sorry to hear   She sounds like she had a good life and I think you did the right thing for her. Its not kind to leave them to linger on when they are like that.

As debecca said, she and I both lost much loved companions recently so I really do understand your loss. I'm still missing my Bowie and Daisy, the gap they left was immense.

Awww you make me smile, in a sad but happy way. Spannery ways... that fits mine also. I am still crying for Daisy on and off. Though in some ways her being put to sleep was easier to deal with than Bowie. I think I knew that after the stroke, seizure and second stroke there really was no way back for her and she would never be able to go on living as she was.

My comfort is knowing they were loved and well cared for and were happy. And we have our memories
