Palpable?

Hiya

Can someone please explain what 4/5 palpable means?

I was at my midwife appointment today and she wrote it in my book and i don't know what it means

Also, how long after your babies were 4/5 did you go into labour?

4/5 palpable means that the MW can feel (palpate) 4/5 of the babys head, so most of it is out of the pelvis with only 1/5 of it inside the pelvis.

First babies can do this weeks before labour so no need to worry. I dont think it means youre about to pop. Second babies can be unengagaed when labour starts and sudddenly move as the pelvis is much looser.

I was 4/5 at 36 weeks and went 10 days overdue. As said above it means 4/5 is out of the pelvis. 1/5 means you're pretty damn close to having the baby, so it's a 4,3,2,1 countdown
