does anyone have one here? we moved into the new place and it has a mini inglenook, we burn both wood and coal and i didnt think it got smokey until we have a bit of wind then we have to keep it small but i washed the windows in the front room and i am like...WTF! they were absolutely black! we are getting a stove fitted when we do all the alterations and building work so hopefully this should cut it down hopefully, has anyone else noticed this and if they have a stove fitted do they still get the grime?

We have an open fire dowstairs that we use to burn wood, haven't tried coal yet, and I haven't noticed any extra grime 
When Isaac was little I wouldn't have it alight because of the smoke when we put it out (I wouldn't go to bed unless is was out) but now we go to bed without putting it out, obviously not a raging inferno but I don't mind if its smouldering.
We have 2 cast iron open fireplaces unstairs too but it would be too dangerous to have them going, but I love my dinning room one
Have you seen them fire logs you can buy for when you are camping? They are good for putting on your home fire, no smoke and they only last an couple of hours

we have an abundance of hardwood logs as the few trees we have had to cut back since moving in dp has been outside with his chainsaw chopping them all up and we have been burning them, i have seen the logs outside garages are they the ones you meen?
and i think i may have heard it on the program Victorian farm the other day
