for me today. Had appt at hospital this morning. baby is not fixed in pelvis yet! which means could not have sweep. M/W started going on about as baby still "free" this could be dangerous if water goes as cord could come first. she took my bloods in case this happens and i need emergency c section
i feel absoulty scared and worried now.
i have my induction booked for friday now worried in case my waters go. i went appt hoping for reassurance but feel so much worse for going.
my cervix has softned and she said was still closed (2 wks ago i was told my hospital i was 1cm)

Aw hun.. don't know what to say except, you'll have your baby in a week...whatever happens

Marie I'm so sorry that you didn't get good news today

Don't really know what to say but at least you have a date for induction and you can see the end is in sight. Hopefully the fact that baby's head is not far enough in the pelvis means waters will stay in tact till Friday

I am sorry that you didnt get great news today, but like fifi has said the end is now in sight for you to meet your little one

I think it's quite uncommon for waters to break without any warning. You'll probably have some warning signs and be able to get to hospital before that happens.

A c-section isn't the end of the world, some women actually elect to have them voluntarily rather than go through the pain of labour

I hope Friday comes quickly, not long till you meet baby now! :cheer: :cheer:

i dont know if its the same but i was booked to have a sweep on my due date with Hannah and my midwife couldnt do it as i wasnt ready down below.

2 days later i went into labour anyway. Good luck :)

Sorry you didn't get the news you were hoping for. Anna has a good point though, don't worry too much about a section - I know a natural brith is preferable, but sections are very safe and people recover very quickly.

Try not to worry & try not to be too down about it, as Rachelandjarvis said things can really change and turn around quickly.

Thanks ladies. i just cant stop worrying about the cord issue. i am confused as my community m/w said she was not concerned about late engagement and that a few strong contractions will push baby down and that those who have had babies b4 usually engage late or not to labour starts. ( due to having weaker tummy muscles and bh not strong enough to push baby down)
i am trying to think positive and not concentrate too much on today and rem i could go into labour b4 friday and baby will have moved down.
thanks again ladies.

Could you not contact your usual community midwife and ask her about it, cos I thought that was the case as well, that second or subsequent babies sometimes don't even engage till during labour

Like you said though, you could go yourself before Friday

Awww sorry to hear things were not quite as you'd hoped

Sorry you didn't get the news you wanted but my friend has just had her second baby and she didn't engage until labour started and she was over due too, try not to worry too much x x

I ma sure everything will work out, try not to worry too much,

Sorry you had a not-so-good appointment hun

Maybe baby will burrow down into your pelvis over the next few days? You might just have a lazy one in there!

Hope the cord is OK - that must be a worry

Aww hun, I hope baby engages for you

I also have increased risk of cord prolapse because I have excess fluid. If you're at home and your waters go and either the cord comes out or you can feel it pulsing in your vag then you need to get on all fours/knees to chest with your bum in the air to take pressure off the cord and phone and ambulance. If the cord is actually out and someone is with you get them to cover it with a clean wet/warm towel. Chances of it happening are small babe so try not to worry but if it does do that
