need advice about the pill & pregnancy............

Does anyone know what the actual percentage is on the effectiveness of the pill the 1st month it is used??? Seems my Gyno forgot to mention a few things.

The pill starts to work after 7 days , as far as I can remember. If you miss one or anything, they normally say, use extra protection for days!
