If you're planning on BFing then i hink you've got it covered apart from nursing bras. They are soooo much easier than normal ones (obviously).

What about little booties? They'll look ever so cute.

Sorry cant think of anything else right now :D

Thanx, yes of course nursing bras  I would have remembered at some point haha!

There's alot of things I have missed out as I already have them. Such as a snowsuit, bath stuff, wipes etc... and as I may be team green yet... unisex booties are like unheard of!! But it's babygro's for the first week or so anyhoo.

Cotton wool? I used the cotton wool pads for cleaning her. In the beginning I just used them and warm water but now I use them and baby lotion. I find wipes give her dry/sore skin.

Oh and if you're breastfeeding - I would advise to get lansinoh and use it right from the beginning as it will help to prevent sore, cracked nipples.

Yeah cotton wool to wash babys bottom in the early weeks. I still use it even now. Only use wipes when out and about.

Feeding:
Breast pump
Breast pads
Nipple cream
Muslin squares
Bottles
dummies?
bibs
steriliser

I personally would not buy a breastpump, steriliser or bottles etc beforehand. The breastfeeding FAQ in 3rd tri has loads of info on breastfeeding etc. Have a read there. Wait and see when the 6 weeks exclusive BF'ing are up and see how you feed about expressing etc. You may find just for occasional use hand expressing is enough. Or a manual pump.

Also I am of the thinking that having bottles (and formula) around in the early weeks may mean you turn to it quicker than if its not there. Often the first few days while your milk comes in can be very hard and women panic their baby is starving and don't realise that is not the case. And end up starting to give formula and its downhill from there.

If you plan to mix feed then you need to be informed as to how it can affect your supply in the early weeks etc.

If you BF you probably won't need bibs. Very little mess when boob feeding. I always found muslins to be fine.

Nursing bras are good. But wait till your LO is here before buying and allow for the early weeks when your boobs will be lumpy and uncomfy when full.

very pleased I found this thread ! The information is excellent thanks !

I wont use cotton wool nomore. I used it to clean Aaliyah at newborn and it bought her out in a horrible spotty rash wherever I used it, same happened with my nephew. :?

I wouldn't have formula around just the bottles to express if I needed to be somehwere without my baby iykwim? How would you go on about that if you had no other feeding equipment around you? I have alot to learn

I wouldn't go for an electric pump either. :shakehead:

I'm gonna be a 1st time mum so no sure if these things are essential....

Have you already got a car seat? some hospitals are funny about you taking baby home without one.
