Well, I saw the Midwife yesterday for the first time. She was really nice but when she tried to take some blood, oh my god, what a palaver!! She found a vein in my left arm, put the needle in and there was no blood. She then put the tourniqet on my right arm to find a vein and could't so she switched baack to my left arm. She then chose a fat vein in my left arm and tried again, fortunately she could get blood, but it was a bit reluctant. In the end she got 2 vials instead of the 4 and told me to get the rest of the bloods taken at my scan.
I was OK with the blood thing, found it quite funny really. But now my left arm hurts a bit and I've got 2 puncture holes and bruises
On a bright note, I've got my scan in just over 2 weeks, can't wait!!! Gonna have to be late for work tho as its' at 9.20am.

Great news getting your scan date Ali :cheer:

I had the same fun with the midwife getting blood out of me. I donate blood regularly and they never have any trouble but she got in a right palaver. When she eventually did get it in a vein it gave a little squirt then stopped. I ended up holding the vials myself and wiggling my arm and squeezing my hand until they filled up! Had a nasty blood blister thing and bruises for the next week.

Have my Downs/CF tests to get on Tuesday so fingers crossed she makes a better job this time!

Sarah x

Aww how brave! I hate getting my bloods taken, my veins usually always decide to hide for them! And great tht you've got your scan date then :cheer: x

Thanks guys, it's strange - I've never had any problems with people taking blood before. Could it be coz I'm pregnant, or did the midwife do a bad job?!
Sarah, hope your Downs/CF test goes better this time!
I'm soooo looking forward to my scan on the 27th May, I'll be 16 weeks then. Do you reckon I can be sly and get them to tell me the sex then, or would I have to wait til 20 weeks?
Hope you ladies are all well. xxx

Hi Ali,

I have had my bloods taken twice so far and the first time my blood came out really slowly. DH was there with me. He suggested for the next time that I open and close my fist a few times before the needle goes in, and then when its in, keep it clenched, and this brings the blood much more quickly. I did this, and it worked!

Ah, thanks for that tip, I'll try it next time! Hope you're well? x

No worries!! All well over here, nothing much to report really.

BTW, I was told the sex @ 16 weeks so it is possible.

(But it was only an 80% guess... which is kind of annoying. You still wonder...)

Glad all is well with you. Bet the weather's nice in Spain? It was nice this week, but as usual as soon as it;s the weekend, the weather goes $h1te!!
Ooooh I hope I can get them to tell me the sex even if it is not 100%

Yeah, its beautiful here. I heard that the weather back home (Ireland) was nice this week too.

Hope you can find out the sex - do you have a feeling about what it might be? I was full sure it was a girl and now they tell me its a boy. So I am shocked, but happy. :)

Yeah I have a feeling that I'm carrying a boy, but you never know!!
