Hey girls -
The news today was full of all these horrible things...like that poor baby in Donegal and this woman I'm writing about.
She showed signs of pre-eclampsia and didn't see her midwife for a full month after the signs showed! The midwife said she tried to get in touch but couldn't. By the time any help was given, this woman was fitting and in hospital, where her daughter was born safe and well.
HOWEVER she claims that she had another convulsion after her daughter was born, which left her brain damaged. She can no longer read, write, knit, sew, (which she enjoyed before she was ill I believe), cook, etc and is dependent on her husband to bring her everywhere, even if she only wants to walk somewhere she has to be held by the hand.
The midwife and hospital were sued for negligence and between them the woman was awarded 1m damages.
Talk about scary...
Sue
