I have only just heard that you are advised not to make up batches of formula and keep them in the fridge. I only left NICU with my DD 3 weeks ago and they said it was ok. Am I right in thinking that you just keep the water in the fridge and add the formula when you need it. Will it still dissolve??

Hiya, no it won't dissolve in cold water, i have made mine up and stored it for both of mine with no problems.

Some one has just said on here that if you want to make a 4oz bottle up fill bottle with 3oz cool boiled water and store that in fridge then when you need it make it up to for oz with hot water then add milk.
I hope you understand that
:D

I have always stored made up formula in the fridge too, probably will do this time too xx

I would boil the kettle leave to cool for a abit then make up bottles and put them in the fridge. Did it on my daughter and will do the same this time.

hoopefully will be breast this time, but with other 3 i used to make up a days worth at a time and put them in fridge as soon as they were cool, for night time feeds in winter i would make a hot bottle before i went to bed and then when baby woke up it would be at room temperature, obviously this isnt recomended for warmer weather as it will curdle

It does disolve in cold water, we have loads of children that have cold bottles at nursery instead of warm and the water gets kept in the fridge or at room temperature and then you put the formula in and shake...It completely dissolves and is fine :)

Just make sure it is always boiled water. Even when you just give bubba a beaker of water it should always be boiled and put in fridge or cold water to cool.

Cas xx

Does it matter if its a little bit warm when you put it in the fridge? Sorry to sound stupid but I'm a first time mum and seem toiworry about everything!!

needs to be completely cool to put it in fridge. what used to do was make all 7 bottles bottles. boil kettle after 30mins make up the bottles. then fill my sink with cold water and stand all the bottles up in it, after 30mins they would be completely cool then went straight in fride as they take ages to cool completely down. i now make my bottles up as i go along as im in most days but storing in the fridge is no prob atall i did with Dior

Why would you keep bottles with just water in the fridge though? i make all my bottles up with the 7oz of water and keep them on my kitchen shelf (if you made all the bottles up with formula then i can understand them being stored in the fridge!) when i need one i heat the bottle of water up (usually 30 secs in microwave) then add the scoops of formula!

also another good tip is o get a cheap kettle and use it just for bottles then you can boil the water and leave it to cool a bit before making them, that way if you need a cuppa you havent goto start over again :D

Cause some children prefer cool milk to warm/room temperature milk. Bottles that will be warmed up anyway can just be left on the side at room temperature...but beakers with boiling water (not for milk) can be put straight in the frige to cool down :).

With my dd I use to boil a kettle of water then tip it into a covered jug to cool down before making up the bottles leaving to cool and then putting in the fridge, that way kettle is not out of bounds when visitors come. Now I'm wondering if that was OK to do as the jug probably wasnt sterilised :?

I don't even put mine in the fridge, just leave them on the side!
But you can put them inn the fridge a little warm hun.
You can make up batches aswell if you want but leave them in there for no longer than 24 hours ideally.

When i was a nanny what their mom and I used to do was make up bubbas bottles for the whole day, boiling water & add formula, and then leave them on the side, thats fine, but you shouldnt put them in the fridge with formula in, room temp only :).

the reason i put them in the fride is because bacteria breeds so fast in warm milk. so i cool them down in cold water then in fridge..

also does every one throw the bottle away after 1hr???

once i get it out the fride warm it up then give to arley i was told to throw what ever is left awy after a hr

Thats what I was told too, but in my nursery they throw it away after 40 mins. I was told to store made up formula in the fridge too because of the bacteria growing :?

Sorry Beanie you are right i was getting mixed up, you cant put re-heated formula BACK in the fridge but you can put newly made formula in the fridge. In my nursery since 2 weeks ago parents must make the milk up ready, as appose to bringing in a bottle of water and formula in a container, not sure why i think its something to do with health and safety that parents should be bringing the bottles ready made and they are kept in the fridge all day, well untill the child needs it, if they are heated and the child dosnt want it, then we will keep it for up to 1 hour but it wont go back in the fridge :).

I do the same as Steph. You will find that this is definately the quickest and easiest way to do things.

Until Reece was about 3 months old I used to make a batch in morning then heat them up as I needed them. wish I'd never though. Its so much easier using room temperature water than heating freezing cold milk.

I did used to do the same, i would make up bottles with just water then keep them in the fridge....until someone said to me "why on earth do you keep them in the fridge if you heat them up anyway, its not like water will go off" so after thinking about that i realised how daft id been!! so thereafter just kept them on my shelf at room temp then added the formula when needed!!
