In a panic..cold sores

I'm getting myself all worked up tonight, I have a 7 day old baby and I think, for the first time in my life I have a cold sore. I've a little dry patch in the corner of my mouth which is red. I've never had this before. I've been kissing my baby as i hadn't paid attention to it but now I'm worried. Any advice?

Firstly, baby is probably ok. Those cases where cold sores make babies sick aren't super common. It can happen so keep an eye on him/her, or maybe talk to your GP if you're really worried. Coldsores are more contagious once they've broken the skin. You can't do anything about the past but now that you're aware of it, don't kiss baby until it heals. You can buy patches to cover it which help prevent it spreading and help it heal faster.
