My little one went to school today and rather that spend her 30p on juice or raisins, she decided to buy a poppy.

She was told she wasn't allowed to have one as the donation was not enough!!

I'm f***ing evil over this. I'm sure it's a school policy as surely the British Legion wouldn't turn a child away however small the donation

UPDATE*****

Right, I went into the school office this morning to find out why Maisy was refused a poppy and it turns out that the school has set their own "minimum donantion" policy of 50p. What a bloody cheek!! How dare they! When I asked why, they said "well, some children were only putting in a penny or so and we wern't collecting enough". So what!!! Surely it's about the gesture as much as the monetary value!!!

I have insisted that my comments be passed to the Head.

I think I'm going to contact the Royal British Legion to find out what their thoughts are on the issue. My guess would be that they would be as annoyed as most people I have spoken to are

thats aweful poor little mite, such a sweet thing for a kid to do

oh god thats awful. But just wanted to say good on your little girl wanting to buy a poppy, I just hope she hasn't been upset over this :(

I'd be spitting mad.I think its a lovely thing to do and she got turned away - i hope it hasbt upset her.

Thats appauling! Id complain to the school.

I bought a poppy from the British Embassy here yesterday and it cost me 4300HUF which is £12! I nearly died!

OMG!

It must be the school - what S**ts!   British Legion would give you a poppy for donating 1p...

poor baby!

thats bloody terrible. They should be encouraging children to donate not turning them away...after all it's the kids of today who are the adults of tomorrow and with treatment like that who knows how the world will be in 20 years time...

I'm glad you don't think I'm over-reacting.

Think I'm gonna have to complain to school. I bet the Royal British Legion would be disgusted at the school's actions!

That is disgraceful, poor little girl!

It must be the school, Brooke came home yest and aked for 2p for a poppy, i sent her with 20p but she was sure they where only 2p!

I would definately complian to the school

Er thats....erm.... well... I dunno what to say... I remember 30p being like TONES of money when I was a child... equivelent to about 30quid to an adult (you could buy the world with 30p when I was a kid )... Its never been about the amount of money donated, it's been about the act of donation. I certainly would complain. :shakehead: It doesn't set a very good example. I would also write to the British legion too.

Such a sweet thing for your wee girl to do and thats how she is thanked :x I'm disgusted!

You're definitely getting me in the right frame of mind to complain girls! That's my evening sorted then

 I am so shocked
That must be school policy and it sucks TBH how dare they dictate how much your little girl donates
What a wonderful thoughtful little girl have there and the school should be encouraging selflessness.
I'd be spitting mad hun and go in first thing and complain I'd also tell other mums in the playground

Id feel exactly the same as you, thats despicable!

I hope she isnt put off being charitable by this, whoever was selling those poppies should be ashamed!

Big hug for you and your diamond little girl

it mite not just be the school, i tried to buy a poppy in tesco's the other day and i wanted one of the larger ones for my daughter. i thought becus its bigger £1 was a sufficant(sp) donation but the guy sellin them sed they were £1.50  i said i thought it was just a donation that was needed and he looked at me in disgust so i gave him the £1.50 and also didnt want to dissappoint my daughter.

i would defo go to the school tho it is shocking, i would think 30p is plenty for a poppy.

xxxxx
