So sorry girls... has been a bit mad and everything happened so quick!
Baby Harry was born at 14.14 on 4th Dec weighing 6lb 14oz.
Here is what happened.........
Banish those myths that say labour is long on your first baby! Going to put all the details in this post so you have been warned lol.
One thing that is true... Its not as bad as you imagine.
So... Sunday morning 4.30 turned over in bed and felt a pop. Thought baby had kicked but I then felt fluid. I had been suffering with alot of discharge but this was extreme. Couldnt move. Andy woke and asked if I was ok. Told him I thought my waters broke. He got me a towel and I went to loo where a gush of it came out. Up to this point I had no pains or backside etc. After waters went I got mild period niggles. Told Andy to go back asleep and I would ring hospital in a bit as I thought it would be ages away. I went downstairs to try and doze on couch. Within 15mins I felt a contraction. Timed them and they were lasting 45 seconds and coming every 3 mins. Rang hosp to be told the birth centre was closed due to staff shortage! Normal mat unit said to see how it goes and ring back at 9. This was only about 5.30. Gave Andy an update and he got up. Told him to time. Within half hour they were coming every 2 mins and lasting a min and half. Rang mat unit back at 6.15 and they told me to come in. Eventually made it out to car, after telling Andy I didnt think we were going to make it as I could barely move cos of the contractions. Anyway, got into car and knelt on floor in the back. Got to hosp in about 15mins. Birth place was open but I was in so much discomfort that I was sure I wwould need an epidural soon so decided to go to normal mat unit. Got seen straight away... got told I was already 7cm, possibly 8 but his head was so low they couldnt really tell! Got sent straight to a delivery room and got the most amazing midwife called Clare. About my own age. Sat on ball beside bed and was straight on gas and air. Had my tens on as well since being at home. Within half hour I was feeling urges to push. She said go with instinct but when I pushed she couldnt yet see head so they were just involuntary pushes. I asked about epidural but she said to give it a while and see how it goes. Little while later I was pushing down more with each contraction... I was kneeling on bed but hanging over the back of it. She monitored me and baby and his heartbeat was a little high so she really started encouraging me to push. She had also just examined me and I was 9.5cm so too late for epidural! Unfortunately 2 hours of pushing later I was still no further, couldnt get his head out. She suspected he was wrong way around. Also had to have sentocin drip as contractions started dying off to 3 mins apart. Got a doc to examine me and they decided that even tho I was pushing perfectly I just wasnt going to manage on my own. They had to use a ventouse and I had to have an episiotomy. Once that was in place, he was born with about 5 pushes. They couldnt do the delayed clamping just with all the drama and they gave me an injection to deliver placenta as I started bleeding quite heavily and it took a while to stop. But he was placed onto my chest straight away and they got Andy to look and tell me the sex and he cut the cord. I had to stay nite just cos of blood loss and stitches etc.
So was a bit of a whirlwind labour and delivery!
Hope I havent scared anyone!
It was an amazing experience and worth every second!
