so as some may no i was BFing for the 1st 5days.. Noah wasnt latching properly which caused server mastitis leading to antibiotics, cracked bleeding nips n giving up n swapping to formula. It was a hard choice, one that im struggling to still accept..
I thought my milk had dried up as my boobs r like pancakes!
Noahs 22days old now.. And will still try at anyone nipple when hungry!
Anyway, about 4days ago i had a crusty nipple (dry milk) so wiped it then thought hmmm n squeezed it.. To my surprise milk came out! Its pretty thick n also yellowy orange than white!
I quess its just the end of my supply..

Question is.. Has anyone or isit possible to express or attempt to BF again after being on formula..
If he doesnt take to my boob again im happy to express.. I just had myself for giving up!!
In crying now just thinking about it :( Xx

Can i feed him formula in the day and then BM in the evening??? Dnt think id be able to soley express... Or BF if milk doesnt cone bk fully... Xx

Hun I don't really have any answer but there are some posts on here about it. Just keep trying him on the breast hun. Lots of skin to skin etc. I think to establish a supply you might need to encourage feeding as much as possible xxx

Its possible to relactate hun but it will require determination, seeing a specialist to.rule out tongue or lip tie and some drugs.
I had to take Domperidone (3 times a day) because my supply was low but they also use it to relactate.
Lots of patience,.try latching him on in the bath.
It wont happen overnight as your body will.only produce as much as you take.out. Best way to get tje milk out is the baby and not the pump.
I feel fpr.you re mastitis, i had 2 bouts but now i recognise a blocked duct and get rid of it before it becomes mastitis.
You.need to see a qualifies lactation consultant though to.help with the latch etc.
I mixed fed my first son btw from 7 weeks, i.would always offer breast first and only then top up.
Let me know if.you have other questions

Tapatalking so cant see signatures

Thank u so much hun. Im guna try him this evening an see how he takes it again as its been 2weeks since he had the nipple.
And contact my HV and see if she can put me in touch with someone to help regardin latching.

Xxx

I combi fed at the beginning after a few weeks of not being able to bf properly.
I think expressing is key for this situation. Also I think it's important not to switch over all of a sudden but introduce it gradually as you build up your supply (to avoid his frustration of being hungry and not getting the milk there and then which will be stressful for the both of you).
Keep getting him to latch on though. My latching on and feeding 'breakthrough' happened when E was in her nappy, i didnt have my top on, just dressing gown and we were cuddling and i tried to feed her and she latched on properly and sucked for 2 hours. It hurt loads. The next day she was a lot quicker and the pain became more manageable. Once my nipples had healed it was no longer painful!

Once you're getting a good amount of milk out in the mornings expressing and Noah is taking it in the bottle, try and do full feeds via breast feeding. You'll be concerned that he isn't satisfied as breast milk is much lighter and he'll probably be at the boob a lot and may get frustrated, but he'll be helping to boost supply along with the expressing. He most likely will wake more at night which could put you off but after a few weeks that calms down too. Also at 6 weeks they have a growth spurt and will literally be at your boob the whole day and night and you'll think you'll need to top them up but you don't, they'll eventually satisfy themselves.

It's really tough at the beginning but after week 8/9 it becomes so hassle free and worth it I promise.

I hope my ramblings made a bit of sense?
Xxx

Thank u do much hun all this advice is much appreciated xx

Don't be too hard on yourself Dani, even those 5 days would have given him so much goodness. I think it's great you're willing to give it another go, but if again it doesn't work out don't be so hard on yourself xxx

Thanks hun.. Im guba try not to be.. Im no theres a good chance it may not work but may also take time.. Fx it goes to plan xx

Goodluck hun! I hope it works out for you.
I'm quite passionate about trying to help people who want to bf but are finding it hard so if you ever have any questions, feel free to reach out!x

i would say defo have another go. I still carry around a huge bag of guilt for giving up after just 3 weeks for similar reasons to yourself.

I thought about relactating at 4mnths, I pumped for 10mins and got milk so I knew I would be able to do it. And she latched on using a nipple shield. BUT I just couldnt put myself or her through all of that again just for it to end up the same as before. Both of us crying our eyes out cause she wouldnt stay on the nipple.

I cant wait for another baby to try it all again. x

This is hat im so worried about lynds :( going through the heartache of watchig him get upset that makes me upset. Its so hard but im so determind!
Im sat here now squeezing my nips lol xx

I was told pump for 10mins. if nothing happens wait 2 hours then try again. If not you might need meds from the Doctor. I would imagine as you are only a few weeks in you will be ok.
But you need to pump every 2 hours to get the supply up again for the baby. And the other issue is baby is used to not having to work too hard on a teat, so may reject the nipple after a few seconds.

good luck to you. really hope it all works out and it all goes perfect for you this time. Now you have caught up on a little sleep and recovered a bit from the birth the hard aspects of it might be a little easier to cope with. xx

Just keep trying to express for now then, as it will help build your supply.

Really hoping it works out for you! X

Dani I can totally relate. I bf for the first 2 weeks then got a blocked duct which I had antibiotics for also had cracked nips it was agony. He was so fussy and stressed trying to latch on at that point that I gave up. But I've wrestled with my decision ever since, I'm still so upset about it. I expressed for a week after I gave up, gradually taking it down from6 times a day to 2 days then I stopped. I was scared of getting mastitis so this is what my hv told me to do to dry up my supply safely. I'm still wearing breast pads as still leaking a little bit every day.

It's crossed my mind to try again but I just couldn't put me or him through it again. I really hope it works for you hun. I've heard getting in the bath and feeding him sorta 're sets' things as it reminds baby of just being born. Good luck huni xxx
