Hi,

As some of you might know, Maheen has been unwell, for about 2 months, with 2 ear infections, one long bronchilitus, 2 falls on the head and a bit of vomiting and diarrhea (not much tho!)

She was unwell from 25 dec till 17 feb, approx.
She started losing weight back in November...and it has got worse and worse, and today, an HV came to home (I asked dietetician help!!) and weigted Maheen...she has lost even more, whereas I thought she had increased what she eats, and is not ill anymore!!!!!!!!
she was 9kg57 (21 lbs) on the 23rd of November and is now only 8kg64 (19 lbs) today!!!!!!!!
According to HV, I am doing all the right things, but obviously not!!!!!!! Why is my little girl not putting n weight anymore???? She is a bottom schuffler, she doesn't walk and is 12months and 2 weeks old.
PLEASE HELP US!!!!!! She will never have the strength to develop correctly if she doesn't put on weight!
I am so stressed now! what can I do?

Could people tell me the weight of their toddler, at approx the same age as maheen and their eating routine with quantities, please... I just don't know what's happening! and if Maheen had something more serious? :wall: :wall:

Oh Melhoney I'm sorry to hear this!

I wouldn't ask about other toddler's weight. There is SUCH variation in babies sizes this can only make you stress even more! I learnt that the hard way when I compared Stanley's weight with others.

It's naturally concerning but not panic stations yet I hope. 2 lbs isn't a huge loss over a few months although of course you always expect LO's weight to go up not down! :(

Have Maheen's eating habits changed at all? Use your instinct. No-one knows your baby as well as you. If you feel in your gut something isn't right, take Maheen along to the docs and see what they say.

If I was worried about Stanley, I'd just take him and take him and make a pest of myself until something was done.

Good Luck and keep us posted xxx

Aw no sorry I only just saw this.

If you HV is OK about it I would trust her for now and just do what you can to give her high-calorie foods, like yoghurts and cheese etc. Fruit and veg are good for vitamins etc but not so much for weight gain.

When Mason was younger I asked my HV if I could give him a weak milkshake as he wouldn't drink milk, and she said it was a great drink to give him, because they need all the calories they can get. She even suggested to me to use an INSTANT drink, like horlicks, but mixed with MILK instead of water for the extra calories.

About the bum-shuffling thing, my nephew didn't walk till he was about 17 months, and now he's a happy, healthy 7 year old. There is a girl at baby group who's almost 2 and she's still bum shuffling too! Try not to worry :)
