Hi Girls,

Just a quickie, I have had the usual swelling in hands and feet for the past 4 weeks but since sunday morning they are ridicilous looking and getting bigger, I mean HUGE, there is no difference in width between my knees and my ankles, you cant even see my ankle bone anymore, nor can I bend my toes as they are so like sausages!

I'm normally a size 5 and my OH's size 9 flip flops are too tight so now I cant get my feet into anything! It's causing mega pain on my joints...I've tried elavating them, soaking in cold water, eating diuretic foods such as watermelon and drinking lots of water which is supposed to flush it out, all with no joy, just bigger cankles!!

My MW is crap and has just fobbed it off, but I'm seriously starting to worry about my hands and feet now, they are beyond swollen, I remember seeing Heidilu's feet and ankles on a post a while back and mine are at least twice that size and hers were really big!

Any advice? Can this be bad for LO?

BP has been creeping up over last 5 appointments but was back down at last middy appointment so she said "not to worry" and now she does not want to see me until 39 weeks......

Help!!!!

awwww you have my sympathy darlin  unfortunatley i don't think there is much that can be done until after the baby is born.. then if you still got problems the hospital should have some magic banana boots that squeeze all the water back up outta ya legs n feet n then you spend ages weeing lol but i don't think you can have anything like that until after bubs is born...

I'd be tempted to get a second opinion though as ya MW sounds very dismissive and i should've thought be taking severe oedema like that a bit more seriously considering you have had raised BP issues...

What is your BP just out of interest?

Sounds like you are doing everything you possibly can to relieve the retention  I had really bad swelling cos of eclampsia with my son and used to find putting on a very light water based moisturiser after soaking in cold water gave some relief from the pain and general discomfort  that and keeping cold moist flannels on my feet and ankles when sitting with them raised

Awwww big hugs darlin xxxxx

Size 5 to 9 sounds shocking! Ask for a second opinion? Perhaps a doctors appointment or something?

Awww you say the nicest things!!

On a more serious note, as Fly said, do oyu know what your BP is? Have you had much swelling anywhere else? Have you found anything to ease it? Eg staying cool, putting your feet up etc xx

I had water retention and had to wear DHs size 10 flip flops for the last 4 weeks. My hands also got very wollen and had to take of wedding rings and they got stiff with the puffiness. I found nothing that helped, even putting my feet up all day helped very little :( . My feet have gone right down now and I'm finally able to wear my own shoes again  so it does go down again after a few weeks.
