babies down for their naps as they get older?
im just interested to know how others do it as Alfie is so stubborn when he comes to his naps and very rarely falls to sleep on me, yet if he is pushed in his buggy he only naps for short periods of time because of the restricted space and wakes up ratty. normally when i see heis tired i give him either a couple ounces of juice or milk (still doesnt fall asleep on that) and put him in his cot and put his music mobile on hes asleep within 5 minutes but protests first, then sleeps soundly for a bit, im just wonderiong how other mums do/have done it and if theres a better way than i do as i hate hearing him cry, well its mardiness really

As they got older my mum would put my bros and sisters in thier cot for there afternoon nap between the age of 6 months and 1, then at 1 they would nap on the sofer with a blanket, which they took upon themselves to do if they were sleepy.

Just wanted to say aswell that, their main nap was after lunch between 12-1 she always found putting them up in the cot at that time was just right and they would sleep until 2 ish, then be happy as larry until the dreaded 6 oclock when they are ready for bed and asolutly knackerd out

Keeping them at a consistent routine also meant they would sleep longer if we were out at lunch, as they were used to going sleep at that time, they would sleep longer in their buggy.

i do this he normally goes up for a nap after his dinner which is about 1pm and then sleeps for a good hour, theres no problem with that i just didnt know if i was being mean because he cries for a few minutes, hes defineatly tired otherwise he wouldnt sleep but i just feel guilty as i dont rock him (he wouldnt allow it) and its basically a case of being put in his cot with his woofy and his blanket switching the musci mob on and letting him cry for 3/5 minutes,

Aww hun no not at all theres nothing wrong with doing that, hes not upset with you hes just having abit of a protest becuase hes tierd.

Putting him in with no fussing and letting him cry for a few mintues is he best for him, he will grow out of that :)

My little brothers and sisters were the same and were asleep in 5 mins, my mum never fussed about putting them to sleep, just makes a rod for your own back if you do.

Na nothing wrong with that

lol i think im worrying becaus eits coming up to the haven meet soon and i dont want people thinking omg thats so mean, but its like you said if i didnt id be making a rod for my own back, hes still asleep now he went down at half one  bored without him lol

i used to pat mine to sleep on the settee then leave them on that surrounded my cushions for if they plummeted off it!
with my second daughter i used to just throw her in her cot and say sleep and she did. she was such a pet

 My mum did that with joanne, she put her in and just said sleep, and she would lol

awww thats great lol :rotfl: may try that with alfie im sure hed just laugh at me and call me da-dee though so not sure if the "sleep" thing would work!

Arianna will only sleep through the day if you strip her down to just her vest and nappy, if I put her in her cot fully clothed she thinks she's there to play!

For Olivia main nap in the afternoon we put her in her cot on her tummy and she goes off, if she cries ill leave her a bit if she doesn't settle ill go up and put her dummy in!

She usually settles on her own tho!

You are doing the right thing with Alfie, he will soon get used to it so dont worry your doing a great job!

I put Aimee up to her cot for naps and i have done for ages. I just say 'want to go bed' at around 11 and she gets up and goes to the stairs. She has always napped better in her cot. Even is she cries at first i leave her and she always goes off.

Leorah sometimes cries too (what a surprise!) I think she does it to wind down when overtired and soon nods off :)

If I time it right when I put Ellie down in her cot - she just goes straight to sleep, often with a grateful look for being put in her cot. If I don't we get screams. I will normally leave her for a short bit to see if she is just unwinding or if I need to go in and give her a cuddle and put her back down again. Sometimes when I go back in she is suddenly looking wide awake again. When that happens I get her up and take her to play with her toys a bit more.

hope never naps in the day  she wont i think coz she sleeps all night, should i try to put her down?

Only if she seems tired. If she is happy not napping then I wouldn't worry
