Just now we live in a private-rent 2 bedroom flat. We are on the list for a house with the housing associations, but that can take ages to get in this town  .

We can't afford to keep up this flat, so are looking for a 1bed somewhere else in the same town. When we first moved in (last Aug) our landlady said it's a lease of 6months and then 2 months at a time,so we'd have to give 2 months notice if we wanted to move out. The thing is.....she gave us "contracts" to sign and return to her, but we forgot about them and she never bothered coming back to get them, hasn't mentioned them since.

Would we still have to give notice? We haven't signed anything, so I don't know what rights we have :? . Also a few weeks ago she said she was putting the rent up, starting next time we pay (1st Nov) can she do that?

Any replies would be great girls :)

Me and my OH rent out properties we have three places full right now.

If you havnt signed anything then you dont have to do anything :)
Nothing is lagally binding you especailly to give notice.

Just give her a call and say that you would like to move out soon and that you will pay upto whats due. if she gets snappy just say it was her responsibility to collect the signitures and your not prepared to pay extra so are moving out as of when you get a place for yourselfs.
There is nothing she can do hun

I'm pretty sure that if you haven't signed a contract you're not tied into anything. And the rent thing is a good excuse if she does get funny, just tell her you can't afford the increase so have to move out immediately. You may find she tries to keep your deposit though so maybe check with CAB to make sure.

You ARE legally oblidged to give notice as you have a contract by virtue of moving in and paying rent. This is the law Im afraid (this is my day job hun so I know what im taking about)
gonna PM you.

im from saaaaaaaaaaaaaarf laaaaaaaaaaaahndaaaaaahn, init darlin!! :rotfl:
