I was searching on the internet about natural remedies and found this info:
(what do you think ladies?)

Having five children and pregnant with my sixth, these are my recommendations for a natural more comfortable birth. I have had both an epidural and natural births and I prefer natural births over medicated.
• First of all, inform yourself. Find out your options in labor and birthing. One of the primary factors that increase pain is feeling out of control and scared. Being informed really helps this. Having a good support person is VERY important too. They can help focus you when you can only process so much information.
• Drink Red Raspberry leaf tea throughout the pregnancy, but at least in the last 2 weeks. Red Raspberry Leaf tea is great for toning the uterus and preparing it for childbirth.
• Use EPO (Evening Primrose Oil capsules) both orally and vaginally (puncture the capsules and insert) in the last 2 weeks to help with labor also. EPO contains natural prostaglandins (similar to semen) and will help to efface a ripe cervix. EPO will not prematurely start labor that is not ready to start.
• When in labor use a combination of warm water and hot compresses along with guided imagery. Warm to hot baths are great for easing contractions and allowing the perenium to stretch.
Imagine the baby descending down and your body opening like a flower. Imagine every breath you breath being a breath you are breathing for that baby.
•Low deep moans helps vibrate away the contraction pains. Very deep- like a crocadile or a low vibrating moan or hum.
• Use olive oil on the perenium to help keep it stretchy and the vaginal opening slippery for the baby.

Also, holding the baby right after birth and allowing the cord to finish pulsating is healthy for the baby.

Im not sure if this is just me but I feel slightly uncomfortable....not sure if its the crocodile imagery or the fact of putting an evening primrose oil caplet into my vagina???!!!! ha ha

OK giggling over... the evening primrose thing should be used under advice from doc or midwife, this could cause BV, Thrush or god knows what....Ive never heard it should be inserted into the vagina. The rasberry leaf tea comes in different types and not all should be taken for the entire duration of pregnancy.

OMG I just read the last bit about the cord pulsating ha ha ha sorry I feel really uneasy

The other stuff though about the feeling out of control and fear I think is good advice, I believe in being informed and researching as much as possible some people believe ignorance is bliss but I prefer to know what is going on...as with my last birth the hospital were fab and were very calm and informative

Great post though, I hope others comment.... and give you other points of view (sorry I was a bit childish but it did make me feel slightly odd) :)

I'm not saying that is all good, just wondering if anyone heard anything like that? It's just pure curiousity!

This is my first so I am not giving my opinion from experience but I will be doing most of these things with my labour.

I had not heard of the evening primrose oil before but will def look into it.

As for being well informed I think that is a given - I am going to hypnobirthing and have been reading loads of books and blogs on birth - from what I read it is the fear and feeling of being out of control which results in pain (when the pregnancy is low risk).

I am hoping to give birth in water and will be using visualiations and deep breathing and self-hypnosis.

The last point is extrememly important in my opinion holding your baby skin-to-skin and waiting for delayed cord clamping will both be in my birth plan :)

I have read a lot on birthing but never experienced it. The advise this lady gives is pretty much my plan, even the epo up the foof(if nec!!) deffo think olive oil and warm water will help with the tearing. Our bodies are so made to do this though and with the right state of mind we can let it get on with it and the pain should not be so bad. My friend said I should embrace delivery as a right of passage as a woman and I do feel like I really want to experience it. No pain, no gain!!

All the things mentioned in that article are stuff I am planning already if required. Kelly hook posted about epo ages ago and then I did a bit of reasearch and its quite a well known natural aid. Will be interesting to see if ant if it helps tho!) you wouldn't think by number 6 they'd jyst fall out when they're ready lol x

your last line didnt half make me lol!!! u r right tho!! ive never heard of the epo and this is my 5th baby...intrestin tho and 1 il def be lookin up xx

Ive heard of the epo before as u need to wear a sanitary pad when using it.
Hadnt heard of using olive oil on the perinium but have heard of vitamin E cream being used so I was foing to go for that.

Lettie, ur comment about them dropping out when ready made me laugh lol

One of the girls on here the other month said about all of the above, and her baby came on time. She didn't drink the tea all the way through just the last 2 weeks. I will be trying it when I get around to that part.

Also my Yoga teacher has said that if you are thinking about having a water birth to not cut the cord right away as the blood is still flowing and at that point and your body knows it has given birth so the blood running through the cord has a lot of iron in it, which is good for the baby. It should only be around 10 minutes.
