Just wanted to pick all of you ladies with your recent BFPs. My gp recently told me that when ttc, I only need to take folic acid as things like pregnacare conception can give the body too many vitamins? Is this true? What supplements did you take whilst ttc? Thank you for any advice.
That sounds very odd? I'm currently taking a few meds because of IVF but among those is folic acid as well as pregnacare original I don't understand what he means about too many supplements? When we were ttc I was taking the preconception supplements and extra folic acid as that was prescribed for me and was perfectly fine X
I know! I found it odd too, why would they produce something that would give the body too much. I wonder if he meant can get most vitamins from diet??? I don't know??? I thought extra can only be a good thing! Didn't really think about it at the time as was talking to him about the loss I had in April and wanted to make sure I prepare my body as best as I can and that's when he said folic acid only. Thank you for your reply anyway and best of luck. X x
Maybe he meant vitamin A? Too much of vitamin A can be harmful for the baby, which is why pregnant women are advised to avoid liver, as it's very high in vitamin A. To be honest, I would check with a midwife. GPs aren't specialised in pregnancy and there will be things they don't know all about, and sometimes they won't be fully caught up with current research. He could also be referring to iron? It's not recommended to take iron supplements unless advised by doctor or midwife to do so, because it can cause constipation, something a lot of pregnant women already have problems with. However, I've read that in the UK, supplements for pregnant women don't contain iron, unlike some other countries. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
