Hi Girls,

Hope you're all ok, as most of you know I'm planning on taking Progesterone Suppositories this cycle that I bought on holiday, but I have some decisions to make-

1. Do I start taking at CD3 as some docs suggest or when/if I get a BFP-

Pros for waiting for a BFP are that I'm having my CD21 bloods done so I would mess up the results of that, and it's important to me to have them as I want to know for sure whether I have lower than average progesterone (I've already had them done twice before but once I got a low result, the second I got a good result but got AF the next day at 8dpo-very strange!)

Con for waiting is that the progesterone may help me get a BFP.

Also I have to decide on the dosage, some people say 400mg per day, my packet says 600mg per day and the clinical trial I was going on was going to give me 800mg per day.

What are you girls who take/have taken it on? Also what brand do you have? I have Utrogestan.

I could ask my MIL who is a Nurse at a private hospital but I think she'll tell me off, other than that my old botox guy is a GP and gives me advice too.

Thanks for your help.

xx

Hi Cos!

Could you not resist a little nosey lol!

Hope you're ok.

xx

I love a nosey me ;)
I'm good, hope you're well maybe, lovin the pma and taking control of the situation - you go girl xx

Glad you're good, yeah I love taking control, I just hope I can get a BFP so I can do my experiment!

xx

Good for you!! I can't wait to see your bfp thread, all the luck in the world hun x

I was taking progesterone after the ovulation and continued on until 16 weeks, doctor put me on 400mg/day (I was on Utrogestan first, sneakily bought in France, the doc here prescribed Cyclogest). If you are doing 21 days bloods, it will mess up the results though

I think i already mentioned i'm on Utrogestan 400mg - and personally that is where i'd suggest that you start at.

I don't like medications at the best of times and you are still only assuming that it is the problem, i'd personally start low and risk another mc rather than go too high and make the negative side effects more extreme than they need to be.

I don't know how much reading you've done, but although too much progesterone isn't thought to be a concern for early pregnancy - it can majorly screw up your cycle if you aren't pregnant.

Estrogen makes the uterus lining thick and progesterone maintains the thickness.

If you artificially maintain too high a progesterone level - you will not get a bleed even though you are not pregnant.

Progesterone tends to drop 7 days after OV if you are not pregnant and then 7 days later you will start to bleed.

If you are taking progesterone up until 14 days after OV (to see if you have a BFP) your period may not start until 21 days after OV.

Also, it can cause vaginal dryness - and you need EWCM for the spermies.

I'd definately wait until after cd21 bloods because you need to know where you stand and it isn't certain you'll get pregnant.

I'm sure that cd22 will still be soon enough after implantation to help i think :)

Thanks for your input girls, I'm having a good Google research at the mo, I really can't decide what to do...?

I don't want to mess up my bloods but I don't care too much about messing up my cycle, maybe a good idea would be to start taking the progesterone at 7DPO when I have my bloods done??

Lou, I think you are right about the dosage for sure.

xx

I say wait until the bloods are done as you want to know what they are naturally.

Hey Girls,

Another quick question, oral or vaginal?

That's where to put the tablet not how to get a BFP lol!! :)

xx

If it was oral I'd have a big problem  lol!

Just wanted to say good luck hun.

xxx

I did vaginal, I think you will have less side effects

Definately vaginal.

Apparently the absorption of the progesterone is much better vaginally - the clinics don't recommend taking it orally, even though it says it in the leaflet, because i think your stomach literally has to be empty to get anywhere near a decent absorption :)

Oh, and just incase you heard you can put it up your bum instead to minimise leakage (like i did) that isn't with Utrogestan, but with a different progesterone tablet ;)

Thanks Louise,

I'm far too scared to do the bum thing!!

Vaginally it will be then.

xx

Cyclogest you can put up the bum apparently but I never did

Yeah that sounds familiar to the thing the nurse mentioned when i asked about sticking it up my bum :)

I'd actually prefer sticking it up my bum to be honest, even if it does sound a bit gross.

I know i'm going to worry about the stuff that leaks away - i thought i was past the bum in the air routine lol :oooo:
