Hey Ladies,

We had our 20 week scan yesterday and am so happy to say we are team pink!! Absolutely over the moon, can't wait to start buying all girly things!!

On the other hand, we had a bit of bad news. They have referred us to the specialist heart unit in Bristol due to a potential hole in her heart. We are obviously worried, but trying not to let it take away from the fact that we are having a gorgeous little girl.

anyone else had something similar? what happened??

Any help or support would be massively appreciated xxx

Congrats for you having a girl. But also must be heartbreaking to hear bad news as well. I didnt want to read and run. I know my cousin had a heart problem with a few ops and trips to the hospital. But now hes a grown 13 year old. Enjoying life. Im sorry i cant give advice on it hun. But we are all here for you xxxxxx

welcome to team pink! The only advice I cuold give is to try not to worry until you've met the specialist and let them explain exactly whats going on.

I havent had any experiences with this kind of thing but hospitals are amazing and they can do wonderful things.

It just makes her that little bit more special. Big Hugs xxxxxx

Hey hun, at the moment hold on to it being 'potential'. That's what I'm doing. Although we've not been told anything yet as only 15 +4, the consultant has already arrange for us to go for an in depth scan on bubs heart at 24-26wks as OH was born with heart defect and it may be genetic. I know this isn't the same as what you must be feeling but try and stay positive and take comfort in the fact that they're checking straight away so it can be monitored and seen to if necessary.

I doubt there's anything any of us could say that could change how you must be feeling, but know you have people here to turn to should you need someone to listen.

Most importantly...CONGRATULATIONS on finding out you're team PINK!! do you have any names picked out? Go enjoy your girlie shopping and keep us all updated!! Xxx

Welcome to team pink and just wanna say good luck I'm sure ur little princess will be fine xx

Brilliant news about the sex. As for the other news my little cousin was born with a hole in his heart but after a few months it healed itself and he didn't need any operations xx

Congrats on being team pink xx

Try not to worry, they're probably just checking it out as a precaution.

not sure if this will help but...A hole could be anything from a murmur, which can fix itself as the heart grows, to a hole in the ventrical. I was born with a hole through all 4 ventricals and had open heart surgery at 6 months. It was obviously a scary time for my parents but all was fine. that was 32 years ago and I can honestly say it doesn't affect my health or life in any way. Now days they can do most of the operations through key hole surgery which is less invasive than open heart.

I probably haven't helped with your worrying but what I'm trying to say is that I had the worst possible scenario and I fully recovered and it had no impact on my life.

I hope everything goes well at the specialist and its all just a precaution. Keep us updated xx

Ahhh thanks everyone, you are all so lovely!

Just had a call from the hospital and my a[ppointment is 3.00pm tomorrow, so I will let you know how it goes. xxx

Congratulations on your little girl :)

Sorry to hear there may be a problem with her heart but as the others have said they can do brilliant things to fix a lot of heart problems these days :)

It is good that they picked it up at the scan too, my brother was born with a heart problem but it wasn't detected until he was born as they didn't do scans back then.

I'm sure everything will be fine and I look forward to hearing your good news update tomorrow :) xx

Hey hun, another team pink! Congratulations!

My husband's cousin has had several operations on her heart at Bristol hospital. She's a very active 9 year old living life to the full! As previously said I wouldn't worry until it's a definite and even then at least your baby will get the best care from the start. The staff at Bristol are fab xxx

Ohhh and for names Mrs Topher, yes we have a name all picked out. Her name will be Georgia Beau Maslin xxxx

Try not to worry - nearly impossible I know - at least your appt is tomorrow so hopefully you can find out more details. Hoping it is something they can easily sort and everything is fine xx

That's a beautiful name for a no doubt beautiful little girl!! Xx

Congratulations on your baby girl!!! Hope the appointment goes well tomorrow too. I have no e pertinence but as the other ladies said try not to panic until you know for sure and of course consultants will guide you through everything even if she does have a heart condition. Xxx

Congratulations. I hope everything goes well tomorrow xx

Congratulations! And hopefully you will get some answers tomorrow. I have no personal experience, but one of my friends has a son who was born with a hole in his heart. He was operated on as a baby and leads a perfectly normal life.

Congratulations! Another girly :) you're in the best hands & they've seen it early so they are aware - try not to worry too much - medicine these days is marvellous & you'll be monitored very closely now. Good luck & best wishes xx

Congratulations on joining team pink hun brilliant news

Very sorry it was hard news too with the heart but they soubd like there being very speedy on checking further for you, good luck today. One of my really good mates found out she had a huge hole in the heart ( only 3 chambers) only last feb at age 37!! ( She had already given birth to 4 kids and ran etc!)

She had open heart surg straightaway and got preg in the may by accident!! And has had a lovely boy this march, so her health has not been affected, infact shes better than ever!

Many many babies are born with tiny holes in heart and most close within a few months by them selves.

Take a step at a time, good luck for heart appoint today x

Congratulations she will be fine xxx
