Hi

My work have agreed to have me back 3 days a week (start back first wk of Feb). :cheer: My old working hours were 9-5 so my working week was 35 hours long. I have to work consecutive days but I have pros and cons for each combination! Anyone got any advice or things to think about that I'm overlooking at the moment?

1) Do I work Mon-Wed, Tues-Thurs or Wed-Fri?
Mon-Wed, arrgh don't like Monday morning feeling but spose it'd get the work out of the way. Tues-Wed means I get a nice long weekend but probably spend Fri cleaning and shopping for the weekend then Monday tidying up after it! Wed-Fri means I'll be in Town already if I'm going out on a Friday night and it's dress down at work so doesn't really feel like a work day!

2) Do I work 8.30-5.30 for two days then the third day do 8.30-1.30 (21 hrs total) or do 8.30-4.30 for three days? If I did two long days I'd appreciate getting in the house nice and early on my "half day" but the long days would mean I wouldn't get to see Olivia at night hardly.

My place of work give you the Bank holidays as annual leave so I wont be worse off for not working Mondays.

Anyone back at work that can give me any of their thoughts on the above? I'd really appreciate it because I feel so indecisive at the moment!

Thanks

Lucy

Hi Lucy, I'm starting back 1st week of Feb hopefully 3 days too! :cheer:

I would say Tue-Thu, giving you a long weekend. All holiday, events, social stuff etc happens at a weekend so you'll always have time to pack/unpack if you're going away.

Plus working cuts into your week anyway so I see no extra benefit of choosing to go in at the begining or end. I'd also be tempted to go for 3 full days rather than the half. If you're going to go back you might as well bite the bullet and go for the maximum money you can earn in the 3 days. Although I do see your point about the evenings......

I'm having to go back Mon/Tue/Fri which is a bit of a bugger but fits in around my mum's part time job (free child care! ).

Good Luck whatever you decide, let us know :)

I am also working 3 days as of Nov 1st. I know this isn't an option for you but I'm working Monday Wednesday and Friday so I never have to leave Rubie more than 1 day at a time and so I can keep on top of my housework. I'm doing 2 long days and a half day but hoping to work all day on my half day as overtime to earn a bit more money (I wanted to do 24 hrs and they only let me do 22). Sorry that's not much help is it

Thanks for your replies, it's good hearing what everyone else does and how they find it regarding how much time they have with their little ones etc. I am finding it really difficult to imagine which combination is going to suit us best.

Not sure I'll be able to explain this very well but we don't get paid overtime at my work so them agreeing to me working 3 days a week means I have to work 21 hrs, if I worked 3 full days then I might as well do 8.30-4.30 because I wouldn't get paid more if I did 3 days at 8.30-5.30! So it's a matter of me working out how to spread the 21 hours over the 3 days.

Kim - glad you've been able to reduce your hours.

Think I need a discussion with inlaws as well to see if there's any
I will hopefully become pregnant with baby no 2 around Marchpossibility of them looking after Olivia if I worked a half day - that would mean only 2 days paying for childcare so would mean more take home pay!

Thanks
Lucy

Hi hun, id go for tues, wed, thurs, with your option no 2, so you get a short day!!!!
Hope they give you what you ask for :D

hi Lucy

I work mon, tues and weds morning and I love it. I get the monday morning feeling but I'd get that anyday of the week :D . I would go for your second option as its great finishing early on weds and going home to see Pete and Seren. Seren is in nursery mon and tues but with daddy on weds. I love it, it really is the best of both worlds to me, I can work in my career which I enjoy and be me, then for the majority of the week I can be mummy :D
