Hiya
Brody is having formula mixed with some of his meals, and also a couple of oz at bedtime.

My question is this....When you make up you formula, what do you do with the teat that you used to shake the bottle? I remember something about this from when I had mason, but I'm not sure what.
Do you use the same teat to shake all the bottles then wash it again? Or do you just shake up the bottles and leave the teats with milk on the inside of them?

I know years ago you could get caps for the bottles, but they don't seem to do them anymore, and I don't want to use a teat that's been sitting with dried milk on the inside of it. At the moment I've been sterilising an extra teat and using that but I wondered what you guys do.

I use the same teat that I used to shake it, it never crossed my mind to use a different one :?

But then again, I usually make all her feeds fresh, except the first one in a morning and if someone else is looking after her

I use the same teat that I shake them with and I make up my bottles 6 at a time. Never relly considered doing it any other way.

I try to make it fresh but my problem is I make about 4 oz in the morning and it can last all the meals with an oz left over for night time!
You're probably not even supposed to use a different one anyway, it must just me and my confused mind LOL

It has never crossed my mind either, but i only use a bottle a day, so its done fresh.

I try and make them fresh so i use the same teat that i shake the bottle with,.

i make the bottles up every night before bed then store them in the fridge, i use a knife to stir the formula then as i warm the bottle for a feed i shake it really well then..

i make the bottles fresh, put the lid on shake it cool it and feed him, all with the same teat.

Urchin, might be a stupid question but when you give Brody an ounce out of the same bottle each fed you don't keep warming the same bottle up do you? i don't mean to sound funny or anything and i'm sorry if i sound abit intruding it's just i got told you are only supposed to warm a bottle up once and then make a fresh if it isn't used.

no I mix the formula with his veggies at mealtimes, and then heat it all up. The only time he uses the teat is in the evening. Don't feel stupid for asking, you never know and you're right to check :)

I was told not to use a bottle after warming after 1 hour. But I never have that problem as Kai has what is in the bottle every time.

I use liquid formula (I know it isn't available in the UK). So 1 part Liquid to 1 part water. I do what is in the can and that is normally enough for the day. Put the bottles, nipples and caps in the sterilizer and after an hour put them in the fridge. When Kai has his feed just warm it up in the bottle warmer and that is it.

I know the new rule is to do each bottle individually but I just can't see the problem with doing it that way.

I only do them fresh because it's quicker, I put the kettle on to boil 1st thing in the morning and when it comes to her next feed, it's just the right temperature, then I repeat the process (using fresh water).

My midwife told me once its made and its cooled it can be re heated once more.

I'm glad you didn't take offence i didn't want you to think i thought you were stupid  Did that make sense

I buy the formula in the cartons that is already mixed. You just pour it in to the bottle, warm it, shake it and feed away!!

It's not much dearer at all and well worth the extra few pence

I put the water in my bottles then allow them to cool then when Abi is ready for a bottle i just put the milk in, you don't have to store the water in the fridge so it's ideal if you're out as you don't really need to warm it (or worry about keeping milk cold).

What bottles do you use? you can get sealing discs in mothercare for different bottles :)

You are supposed to finish a feed within an hour of it being started not being made :)

Manda x
