Hi Everyone,

Im new to this but was just wondering what everyone had been told about drinking lots of water before your 12 week scan? My scan is tomorrow and the letter I got from the hospital says nothing about drinking lots, I have got a few friends who have already had babies who mentioned that you have to drink LOADS before the scan - thoughts anyone?

Thanks

Nics

I think the more you drink the clearer the image will be, i drank a whole bottle of water and didnt wee for about 45 mins before :) hope all goes well and congrats xx

Ok - thanks! All quite exciting now!
Strange that the hospital didnt mention it though! x

My scan letter came with an advice letter to drink a pint and a half, 2 hours before the scan. Then the scan was 45 mins late... (crosses legs)

I was told a pint an hour before. Think it's diff for each hospital as the machines are diff

I was told 1 pint 1 hour before. It's because a full bladder pushes baby into a better position for the scan. Also the ultrasound scan can see better through a full bladder than an empty one, depending on the angle needed. I'd go with a full bladder just in case, and they can ask you to empty it if needed.

I was told to empty mine before my scan :eh: such different policies everywhere :oooo: x

I called the department earlier as obviously every place is different and they said not to drink too much! How confusing, I suppose that either way I can drink more if necessary or make a quick trip to the loo if I need to! Pretty excited now - such a strange combination of excitement and nerves

My first scan tomorrow too Niknak, hope all goes well for you! x

Hey Hun at my nuchal they told me to empty mine because if the bladder is pushing against the womb it can mean they get inaccurate readings, and then also had to have an internal and they said bladder had to be empty for that!

Hope all goes well look forward to the update Xx
