Hi everyone,

My partner & I have been referred to a fertility clinic, we were sent for additional tests then booked our initial consultation which is at the end of October.

I'm so nervous on what to expect, would love to hear other people's stories, especially if similar to our situation...

Our background - both 27 years old, TTC 18 months, all fine with me, OH has Azoospermia (zero sperm count) due to undescended testicles at birth (operated on when he was 2 years old).

Thankyou for reading ☺️

Hi Jenny and welcome. I hope your appointment goes well. My husband also had undescended testicles but he didn't have his operated on until much later, he was 7 or 8. They were a bit worried about this as the longer you wait the more chance of problems but his sperm analysis have always come back ok, so we got lucky. I have heard stories of people with zero sperm count managing to get some sperm, if you search the forum there are some ladies on here who had partners with the same issue and hopefully they can give you first hand experience and advice of what supplements to take.

Our first appointment was lots of paperwork, family history, criminal history, medications, previous health issues/operations etc etc. Then we had to rebook all our tests, so my oh needed another SA, I had another ultrasound and lots more blood taken, then I also had to book a hsg. That was pretty much it for the first appointment (we saw the nurses, not the consultant). After all the testing was redone we then had another appointment with the consultant who discussed treatment options with us. I know some places see the consultant straight away but ours they won't see you until they have all their own test results, they wouldn't accept the tests we had already had done through the GP for referral.

Hi Snowbee,

Thankyou so much for your reply

I did think about doing a search in the forum but can't seem to find a search bar anywhere? Could just be that I'm not looking hard enough though!

I haven't actually spoken to anyone else who's partner had undescended testicles too... Was his just the one or both? We're pretty sure this is the main problem for us but can't count on anything until we go to our first appointment!

The specialist we have been referred to has sent us for additional test alreadys (bloods for me, bloods & SA for partner) & it states on the letter than we will be seeing the consultant herself. Also says I may be having a transvaginal ultrasound the same day of the appointment??

I see you're on Clomid? How is everything going for you? Xx

My husband had both. When he told me and we looked into it I was really surprised he had his operation so late as everything you read says asap to avoid issues. I also know of someone else who had the same and he had his operated on when he was 23. I think they had to have surgical sperm extraction and then had either iui or ivf I forget which it was a long time ago. I have my husband on the wellman conception vitamins. I've been told smoking is also a big factor so if he smokes get him to stop if he can! My husband was also told no tight pants or jeans, so no skinny jeans. Not to use the laptop on his knee, limit alcohol consumption and no really hot baths.

The search is underneath where is says Pregnancy Forum, there is a bar with User CP, Community, Search etc. This is on a computer as I don't have internet on my phone so that may well be different!

I've had that many scans before, during and after my referral they must have a detailed map by now! I've always had to book a separate appointment but all our letters say the female may be internally examined at the appointment (never happened). I think be prepared (wear good pants! haha) just in case. At least with an internal you need an empty bladder so you don't have to sit around trying not to pee yourself for hours (mine are always running late!).

Yes I'm on my 7th cycle of clomid and would you believe it I've just had a positive pregnancy test! Very excited but I do have a really high chance of mc (I have pcos and thyroid antibodies that combined don't give good odds), so going to enjoy it as much as I can for now. :)

I found the search bar now, thankyou! Lol.

The only things that my partner does out of that list is drink alcohol, and wear jeans (not skinny jeans). So hopefully not too much of a lifestyle change for him!!

Oh wow congratulations!! That is amazing news keeping my fingers crossed for you that this is the one that decides to stick! Xx

Hi, I've got no experience of this (but as you can see, we have been through the referral process), I just wanted to wish you luck. Xx

Hi Phonixgirl,

Thankyou so much

Will you be having another cycle of IVF? Wishing you all the luck in the world xx

Yeah, we're having one more frozen cycle and then that's the end of the road for us xx

You could always get a natural suprise remember!

From when I was referred I had the whole MOT done-bloods,scans etc. Hubby had to do a SA too.
