ruben had very dry skin from birth and aquous cream did nothing for it, infact olive oil worked better! about a month ago he developed baby excema on his face. it started just as a rash but a couple of weeks ago it got worse, as he rubs it with his fists and it got infected and started weeping in some places. the HV prescribed diprobase, which had no effect. it looked sooo uncomfortable poor mite, it would weep and then form a crust... went back to the HV yesterday to see what she thought i should do since there was no improvement from last week. so i took him to the GP and she prescribed some hydrocortisone cream for the whole of the affected area (pretty much his whole face apart from his nose and chin! lol) which he can use for upto 2 weeks twice a day, and some antibiotic cream to clear up the infection and stop the weeping, which he should have twice a day for upto a week. and the results are beyond what i ever imagined!!! i applied the creams very thinly last night before he went to bed, and after only ONE application his skin had improved drastically by this morning! the excema on his face is 90% gone, just a little bit of redness left, and even the infected area looks really well, not weeping anymore! i'm gonna apply the creams again today and tomorrow and then hopefully it will all go (for now!)

she also gave him epaderm for the dry skin on his body. and that too had an immediate effect, his skin was so much smoother!

yay, finally his gorgeous little face won't have red, scaly patches on it anymore! (hopefully!)

Glad you finally found something that has helped. Aimee has epaderm which does help on her body but her skin is still very dry. It does not touch face though which is red raw an the minute. Can you buy that cream over the counter or does it have to be perscribed? Also has Ruben had antibiotics yet? Just wondering if he has did it make his eczema worse?

the hydrocortisone cream has to be prescribed, and so does the antibiotic cream he has for the red raw bits (which are no longer red raw!!! ) but the GP didn't even question it, she prescribed it straight away as there were infected and weeping areas on his face. he probably won't have to have oral antibiotics, it seemed the antibiotic cream did the trick!
