Hey guys,

Sorry it's taken me so long to post the birth story of my little girl - she's been running me ragged and i've been fighting some kind of virus for the past week so i've been living in bed!

It starts on Sat 21st August when I was called in for induction as my BP was a little up on the 20th and I had +2 protein in my urine.
At 10.30am I was examined (my cervix was central and MW could get her fingertip in so it was starting something on it's own anyway) I was given the prostoglandin pessary and was told that I wouldn't be examined for 24 hours so had to sit it out. We weren't allowed to leave the hospital so me and Jamie spent the day wasting money in Costa coffee and on the TV in my room!
Jamie went home for his tea and to get some sleep so my Mum came to join me and watch The Xfactor - I don't know why I got so excited about it...personally thought it was naff!

I didn't sleep fantastically. Between my 4hourly BP checks I was getting BH every 15mins so was awake most of the time.
In the morning I was examined and was told to be 1-2cm. I was given a dose of prostin gel and left on bed rest for an hour. I was left to my own devices for another 5 hours and was examined again at 6.30pm by some scary looking doctor who I SWEAR was reaching for my tonsils – my god that internal hurt!! I was 2-3cm so I was told i'd be going over to labour ward to have my waters broken :-D

Finally at 9.30pm someone came to get us and we were shown to our delivery room. It was awful, everything was so clinical compared to my lovely little room i'd been in and I completely panicked. The midwife was absolutely lovely though, she was 15 weeks pregnant herself so it gave us a good topic to chat about! She broke my waters and started discussing the oxytocin drip...”No thanks” I said and I begged her to let me go for a walk for a couple of hours to see if I could kick start my contractions as I wanted to use the pool but had to be 4cm. As they were quiet, the doctors agreed so off we toddled. I was getting pains every couple of mins, not sure what exactly they were but when we got back and I was examined again I was just 3cm although my cervix had softened and thinned a lot. The doctors said I could have another couple of hours if i'd like...i could see this going on all night and as I was getting these nasty pains every couple of mins I thought, sod it, so got them to start me on the drip and accepted the advised epidural (if I was going to be stuck on a bed then I was taking the easy way out!) They also had to put a clip on babys head as the little bugger wouldn't stay still to be monitored!

It took the anethetist 3 attempts to get the bloody epidural in my back, luckily the local anesthetic worked well! I was told it'd take 20mins for it to work...40mins later I could still feel everything! I was given a top up and started on the drip about 3am (this is where all concept of time went out of the window!) I started getting some pretty painful contractions and by 'x' o clock I was given some pethidine as the further 2 epidural top ups did shit!
I don't remember much but I just slept until I was woken by a contraction. At some point I must have been complaining of more pain as I woke up at one point with the gas and air in one hand

The pethidine must have been wearing off as I remember the rest, at 8.30am (23rd August) I was examined by the new MW (she wasn't so nice) and I was 6cm. I remember the contractions being painful but surprisingly managable. About 45mins later I started getting different contractions with an urge to push. I told the MW who completely dismissed it. By what felt like the 100th time of telling her I needed to push, she said sarcastically “Go on then, push” as if she knew nothing would happen. Well, my god, i've never seen anyone move so fast “Oh! Keep pushing, come on!” she's going – I was obviously right! :smug:

Just 6 mins of pushing and the help of an episiotomy and my daughter was born into the world at 10.06am 23/08/2010 weighing 8lb 4½ oz :D

I gave her her first feed whilst getting stitched up and was in total awe with her. Apparently I called my Mum 10mins after she was born telling her how beautiful she was...I don't remember this! Lol!

We're all doing well and settling down into family life. Breastfeeding is going well and she's quiet lenient with her sleep so Mummy and Daddy are happy! Hehe!

Thanks for all your support throughout my pregnancy guys – i'll try my best to keep on here as often as I can.

Anyway, here's some piccies! (Sorry they're so big!) Xxx
