I've been giving Jake a dummy for a few weeks now. At times he can keep it in his mouth for ages and falls asleep sucking, but most of the time he just spits it out and then cries until he gets it back. Is this typical behaviour for a 7 week old or is there anything I can do to help him keep it in his mouth?

Ok this isn't from personally experience because Emily isn't fussed whether she has her dummy or not. But I know Lex had problems with Jaiden spitting out his dummy constantly and her and her OH having to go back and put it back in all the time. So they decided to ditch the dummy altogether because the constant back and forth was tiring everyone out. So you could try him without the dummy. Thats the only suggestion I have sorry hun

I don't think he's overly fussed about his dummy either but when he has it he can't live without it!! He doesn't need it to go to sleep at night or anything, I only really use it when I don't want him sucking my little finger constantly!! x

Could the dummy be too big. J's first dummy was a 6-12 $th one when he was about 6 weeks but it was the ONLY one at thw time that soothed him. It was a little big fom him to sleep fully with but it was also at the time too heavy for him to manipulate himself............ X

I'm sure his dummy is a 0months + one. Maybe a bigger one would do the trick. I'm going to try and stop resorting to the dummy and see how we get on. I'd prefer him not to have one as I know it can sometimes be difficult to get them off them later on.

You could try a different shape, my Lo will only use avent ones.

Yeah different shapes might be an idea.. J despised the orthodontic ones which is why he had to jave a bihhger one as that was the only size inm the ttad shape dummiea trhey have (called cherry style-can post pics if ness) and he loved the cherry ones! We found it really easy to switch to orthodontic ones when he was abnout 8 months (as it filled his mouth better) and now he only has the dummy to help him drift off and then he spits it outy. Please scuse mt spelling I have a bb amd fake nails.... Xxx

Matthew did this! I tried all different types and shapes, actually realised he was sucking on it so hard it flee out his mouth, he got the hang of it after a while! Now he doesn't want them at all, so seems to have weaned himself off them!

I know Lucas doesn't like to have his dummy if he is sat up but he will take it if he is laying down. He only has it really in the day to settle himself to sleep as he fights it or if he is waiting for food when we are out and about. Maybe try a few dummies and see which ones he takes to. xx
