hey all

just wondering who was having (or has had) the pregnany screening tests for downs...etc
as i didnt want it, but i think i want it now, im not sure

am i the only one that didnt want it?

charlie xx

No i not taken any tests.I'm 40 and classed as high risk but hey you get what you get,i wouldn't do anything about it anyway so we've decided against all the prodding and poking.

ive never had any of the tests when i was pregnant. i didnt have the 16 weeks bloods or the nucal fold scan.

if it came back 100% my child has downs it wouldnt change my mind. i would love them however they were regardless, so to me, there was no need

I initially refused the nuclear scan (blood test and ultrasound) because I too felt that even if I was high risk it wouldn't change my mind about the baby. However, in accepting the scan it meant I got another ultrasound (and another day of work!!) LOL So this is why I did it. If I was shown to be high risk I wouldn't have had the amonsceitisisisisisisis (however you spell it) because of the risk of miscarriage.

I think if you want it, as long as you know why you want it, and the implications of it, then whatever decision you make is the right one.

I had the blood test at 16 weeks in my last pregnancy and got good odds and im planning on doing it again this time,i dont mind doing the blood tests but not sure i could do the amnio because of the risk of miscarraige.

Completely gatecracshing - sorry

I went ahead with the nuchal screening (scan and bloods) which is pretty much standard practise - im a healthy 21 yr old so expected a low risk but came back high.

Had a scan to scan for abnormalities as they dnt like to just go ahead with the amnio.

She had 2 large cysts on her head so was recommended we had the amnio.

We went ahead for personal reasons - Amnio was horrible and the 2 weeks after were the most terrifing of my whole life....

Turns out everything is FINE... If i decide to have another one I will not be having the screening tests.

Only good thing about the whole ordeal is that we KNOW she is a girl through the chromosones lol no suprises on labour day for us hehehe xxx

I had the scan and blood tests, didn't see the harm really. I haven't had the results yet but it's been a week and a half so I'm figuring it's low risk and I just haven't got the letter yet. I don't think I'd have gone for amnio if it'd been high risk, but I don't know - it wouldn't have made any difference to me having the baby but there is some merit in being prepared. It's difficult to know what you'd do unless it happens, but I really didn't see any point refusing the non-invasive tests.
