double prams / buggys

I wasn't going to get a double, I wanted to sling ds2 everywhere and just keep ds1 in the buggy for longer trips. However my SPD is still playing up and I find it more painful if I carry him long distances (although I love the sling for short trips).

I've now got a side by side double which is a bit awkward but not as bad as I expected. I've not tried a tandem though so can't compare.

If ds1 was older I'd probably just go for a buggy board but he's just too little at the moment and can't be trusted to stand still!

weve got a narmal 3 wheeler and a buggy board, then if hope gets tired bubba can go in the sling and then hope in the pram :D

tandem definatly, i've had both types & side by side are a pain in the backside when shopping.

Another question - tandems - how old can the baby in the back be???

think my kids will have similar age gap to yours, i wasnt gonna get a double pram, i thought of buying one of those steps for millie to stand on to attach to the baby's pram?

see that was my orignal plan, but the only time we use a pram is when alice is playing up and we want to strap her in or if she is asleep....

I want to do LOADS of walking after Lewis is here (need to lose as much weight as i can before july! eek), and walking seems to be the easiest way. i plan to sling Lewis a fair bit, but i want to walk for at least an hour a day - it seems easier to have a double for them both...

Also, when i mentioned the idea of a buggy board to the staff in mothercare yesterday for alice (they knew she was 2 as they where suggesting ideas) they said from feedback they recon she would be too young, even though the recomended age would suggest otherwise?

We used a tandem for Lydia and Alex and loved it. The back seat lies flat so we could use it from birth.

this is the one we've got (only in red and black)

We tried a buggy board for a while but Lydia kept getting on and off it every 5 minutes and it drove me mad.

I have 3 double prams 1 tandem 1side by side and a new modern design on i wouldn't know what you call it it the size of a single and i would say the tandem definately for easyness getting around and getting up curbs oh and of course shopping space underneath

Ive had a tandem (like Xena's) and a side by side Maclaren and I Loved my Maclaren! But it was a pain getting in and out of shop doors (single doors) and baby is facing straight into the wind! :( (though I had a big cosy toes that came right up and did protect him a bit)
With the Graco (which is the same as the Mothercare one you posted) I could attach the car seat to the rear seat so like a travel system so that was quite good and it lies totally flat so suitable from birth! Also a great big shopping basket! :D

I also had a buggy board and my son HATED it! Well they both did if Im honest! They just would stay on at all!

I know a lot of people may say its a waste of money but I would definitely recommend getting a double pram! If I needed to go somewhere quite far, I couldn't expect Joseph or Dillon to walk with me!
Joseph was 2.5 when Lucy was born so had to walk everywhere and TBH I didnt go anywhere unless someone could watch Joseph as he couldn't walk too far!

A sling is a great answer too but again there are times when you might not feel like carrying baby or if you get a bad back etc!
You can always resell your tandem/twin pram on afterwards and get some money back!

Thanks for all your input ladies.

Looks like the decision has been made for me though - even though he said its up to me, my OH said yesterday he prefers the side by side ones.

Why must there be soo much choice!! :wall:
