Just been at the docs and whilst i was there I thought id mention that I am ttc and i seem to get an + ovulation every 17 days on opk and with temping too every month and then about 9-10 days later i start bleeding and Ive noticed it for the last 3 cycles, which I said is abit short dont you think?

She said how do you know your ovulating? I said its picking up my lh surge on cd17 and my temp too. She said I am most likely missing my surge and as im having regular periods I am likely ovulating around cd14 and my luteal phase if 14 days and if having sex once or twice then ill be covered and not to worry!

What a stupid reply...

Wow. I had a similar ignorant response from my doctor. I was in there for a UTI and mentioned that we were trying for a baby knowing that some of the meds shouldn't be taken when you're pregnant, but when I told her that I was pretty sure I'd ovulated later that month she just said, no, probably not. Then in an amazing bedside manner after the urine test, 'you're not pregnant' without even a hint of compassion or interest. Just a statement! Shocking.

Regular GP's/Doctors know nothing about TTC/fertility, you find out more coming on a site like this lol!!! My doctor didnn't even know you could see a heartbeat around 6 weeks!!!!:wall2::wall2:

Wtf.
Ughhhh, i really hate GPs! The fact that opks are there to pick k up your surge when you ovulate and she's just like nahhh it's wrong. For goodness sake, they need to learn more about ttc and fertility x

I know... did not even ask how long my cycles were. Ridiculous. I knew I was going to get some form of response that was unhelpful.

I hate the question how do you know your ovulating. Well I don't know, maybe it's the positive tests, or the one sided pain with ewcm.
Then they answer with, oh but they're not always correct, and you can't be sure your not missing it. Ok then doc you know more about what happening when and what MY body does. It's like yeah I'm a doctor, I know more.... even tho it's your own flipping body. Makes me angry ahhh. Lol x

It annoyed me because that such a textbook answer you ovulate around CD14 if you have regular cycle... well thats not true at all everyone ovulates differently and the fact Id be covered if I have sex twice a week... errrmm I have sex more than twice a week and Im yet to be pregnant ha!

I could not agree more. My gp keeps saying it takes up to 12 month to conceive with the same partner. I finally got my blood tests done. I hate begging for tests but I guess the other option is to go private. X

I agree with you all. I gave up with my docs. I've just recently moved to yorkshire so it'll be interesting to see what they are like up here xx

I understand this! I went to the woman who was a GPSI gynae because of the fact this was supposed to be her special interest area which clearly it is not!!

She told me not to waste my money on OPKs because they prey on the desperation of others which I get for the expensive ones but I use ICs. Her advice is to have sex 'regularly' well once a year is technically regular so y'know not helpful!

She seems very disinterested in the fact we are TTC and the fact she said she had made a referral to gynae for my period problems was a massive lie, she left me 4 whole weeks lying it had been done when it had not. I am furious because this might be something that might mean we are unable to conceive and she has not taken me seriously since I started to see her last October.

Another gem of hers was an outright 'oh no you dont have cancer' when I was explaining to her why I was pushing for my referral because of my mothers cancer of the lining of the womb and our symptoms are very similar. She has not done the correct diagnostic tests to tell me that at all.

I wonder if GPs are just not all that interested in ladies who are TTC. I almost choked reading a post just right now on FB praising this doctor saying how wonderful she is and the most caring fantastic doctor they have ever met and really cares about her patients and is so friendly and patient with everyone and all that tripe. Nope totally not, I found her to be quite off hand and unhelpful as well as lying to me. I am not the only one who has said this about her too. Rant over!

I had a couple of shorter cycles after ovulating. I always used to think the egg could've been fertilised but not have the right conditions that month to turn into a baby. I caught after 5 months trying x

Just find a fertility clinic in your area and make an appointment x

I always thought you needed your doctor to refer you even it was private x

No need for a referral if you want to go for private treatment x

Gps are "generalists" so their knowledge of infertility and ttc will be basic. If you want advice you would need to see a specialist ie get referred or go private xx
