Hi all.
Just joined the group, as my better half is about 20 weeks preggers!!!
(She doesn't 'do' computers, so here I am  )

A little complicated, and quite a long story, but basically, we didn't find out about our baby until 19 weeks into the pregnancy.
She has Crohn's disease, and during a visit to the specialist today, they told her that her protein level was low.

They said it's nothing to worry about - which of course instantly made her worry!!

This is our first time, and we are a little (ok, VERY) nervous.
We don't know much about pregnancy and babies, but we want to do all we can to make sure 'he's' ok and healthy.

We are going to the doctors tomorrow, but she is VERY worried NOW!

So in the meantime, can anyone help us????

Thanks,

(Bless her.....)

I'll work on chilling her out a bit tonight.

Hi & welcome to the forum

Congratulations first of all :cheer:

Second, my aunt has chrones & has has 2 kids, and i would like to add she was VERY well during her pregnancy and did not suffer at all.

I think when there are signs of protein in wee it can be signs of Pre eclampsia , which can be serious if not monitored sorry dont wanna worry you. But your midwife will go throught everything with you and your partner

Found this for you too look at.

Hi,

Congratulations on the pregnancy. You'll be relieved to know I'm sure that research has shown that the course of pregnancy and delivery is usually not impaired in women with Crohn's disease and they can have the same experiences in pregnancy and labour as a woman without Crohn's. Regarding the protien, don't let that worry you, most pregnant women find themselves deficient in some vitamin, mineral (commonly B6 or Iron) or similar during pregnancy as baby simple pinches everything he or she needs from the mother so he or she can be as healthy as possible...mummy-to-be needs to just ensure she's taking a good prenatal vitamin preferable with iron (I take Sanatogen Prenatal & Omega 3 Oils - the vitamins alone are around £4.99 for a months supply, with the Omega 3 it's around the £10.99 bracket but I don't eat fish so it's worth it for me so baby gets essential oils etc). Anyway protien can be found in many foods, from eggs and cheese (cheddar) to milk and meats such as chicken or a nice steak. If levels are extremely low a suppliment can be given by your GP. Also check regarding your wife's medications during her pregnancy, some can be continued, others should be discountinued for the duration of the pregnancy. Hopefully that's of some help to you but don't fret about Chron's or protien, neither at the end of the day really mean that much more than anything else us pregnant women fret about.

Nicola.
