im 38 weeks and 3 days and ive had a lower back ache for the past couple hours at first it was coming and going but now its constant and maybe gotten a little worse. and ive been getting the occasional cramps in the abdomin. should i call the doctor or will they just tell me to wait for contractions
could this be the start of labor?

I think so long as they are irregular and not very painful it is likely you will be told to wait.
I have been getting what you describe on and off all week - sometimes the cramps are constant for a few hours, then they go away for a while.
I think they will probably tell you to wait until the pain is in a regular pattern with contractions coming at regular intervals. If you're not sure though or are worried, no harm in giving them a quick call for some advice. Good luck!
