Had my consultant appointment today to decide when to induce me if I go over due as there has been confusion over my due date since day 1.

It went a million times better than I thought - they agreed to use MY due date (4th):dance::dance: and have booked induction for 18th in case I go that far over!!!

And AMAZINGLY the doctor offered me a sweep - which is unbelievable, as by the date the hospital are using I'm 38 weeks, by my dates I'm 39+3 - so not 40 weeks by either!!

She found my cervix and said it was "a little bit closed"?! So I didn't know what that ment cause I thought it was either closed, or not?!

Anyway, that was 10am, I've just been to toilet and my pants were covered in brown stuff...like as if it was really dark blood?! It didn't have any white discharge in with it, so I guess it wasn't my plug? Do you have any ideas what it could be???

Thanks girls, and sorry for long post!! xx

Hmm, I would guess it's old blood that's maybe been sitting near your cervix for a little while and now been disturbed by sweep? Not sure though, hopefully it precedes your show!
Yay for them FINALLY using your dates though, whoop!!

Yeah that's what I thought too hun! :-)

Does anyone know if them trying to do a sweep actually does anything? Does it make cervix softer and more likely for a sweep to work the next time or anything?

xxx

The aim is to separate the membranes around your baby from your cervix. This releases hormones called prostaglandins, which may kick-start your labour. The same thing can happen thro nipple stimulation and sex xx I have tried all three now and still nothing :-(
