Hi Girls,

I'm back again, 2nd time round, as I have just found out I'm 7 weeks pregnant

I'm desperate to get my hair coloured, can any of you tell me if this is safe to do so before 12 weeks?

Thanks a bunch

xXx

hiya - im desperate to do mine as well, 7 weeks myself, but everythgin i read suggests that although there is no firm evidence that small doses of amonia and peroxide harm your growning baby most people wait till after 12 weeks to be on the safe side. I want to dye mine but as it's a lightner im gunna wait as i think it's got a lot of those chemicals in. Otherwise, highlighting is supposed to be okay as it doenst touch your scalp so doesnt get absorbed and there are some natural hair dyes on the internet if you search hard enough, not jsut darker colours but lightners as well. It is a pain though isn;t it when you feel rough already let alone having some nice roots showing making you feel worse!

im having my highlights done in 2 weeks time, the stuff never touches my head so Im sure it is fine.I think all over colourants are the ones to avaoid

Yeah thats right Scones, highlights are fine because its not touching the scalp where as colours that are placed directly on the head are supposed to be a no no because the particles/molecules could pass through the scalp and into the bloodstream.

Thanks girls, oh well never mind, I have dark hair with a few greys coming through so would need an all over including roots. Will just have to stay grey - its worth it afterall :)

i was wondering this too so brought some daniel field organic/mineral hair dye to try after 12 weeks. it hasnt got amonia, hydrogen peroxide or alcohol in it. am hoping that will be safer to use.

Midwife said it was fine for me to use the home hair dyes that you buy out the shops anytime in pregnancy just not at the hairdressers for the first 12 weeks

I am waiting as am also worried about breathing in all the other people's dyes in the hair dresser.... could this be a problem???

Yep i think you've covered most points.

Another thing to bare in mind, something my hairdresser told me when i was getting my highlights done (around28 weeks), if you're first tri then your hormones are all over the place so sometimes the colours will not come out as expected.

Maybe try waiting :D

I wouldnt think this was too much of an issue, afterall pregnant hairdressers have to breathe in the fumes all day, so a couple of hours wont hurt!
