Codeine and breast feeding.

That's interesting...our trust policy has always been to refuse to supply codeine to BF mother's. Although Drs do over rule this sometimes. Its all to do with if the mother is a high metaboliser of codeine.

I'd be suprised if many places still supply codeine to BF mothers these days...pretty much limited to paracetamol!

Thanks hun. Shame it's not suitable as codeine is an amazing painkiller, I find paracetamol useless. But it's also highly addictive! X

Thanks for that hun. I was always told paracetamol or ibuprofen for when BF

Think paracetamol/ibuprofen are first line. But codeine was deemed suitable if you required something stronger -I definitely had dihydrocodeine after my DD last year.

but yeah, there's issues about how different people metabolise it. Usually healthcare professionals err on the side of caution with BF and meds, but you never know.
