Hi ladies,
My wonderful hypno birthing birth story.
(sorry its so long, just wanted to recall every minute, was actually a wonderful experience!!)
Part 1 - The lead up to labour
Well Tuesday morning I woke up and just felt weird. It had been a hot and sticky night and I really had not slept well, so I felt overtired and very emotional in the morning.
I had a dull ache in my lower back and some period type cramping in my pelvis. I just felt like I wanted to go back to bed. I took this as a sign and that I needed to rest like my body was telling me too.
So I decided to call my Mum to see if she was able to have Roman for me (no rest would be had whatsoever with a very lively 4yr old!! )
As soon as I spoke to my Mum I just started crying and I couldnt stop!! Whats the matter my Mum asked, I dont know I said and I really didnt, I was just so emotional!! Anyway she came straight away and I went back to bed and just dozed and relaxed, the cramping and backache was very persistent!!
In the afternoon I had a soak in the bath and I felt much better.
That night I was sure something may happen. But the cramping, backache and emotion had completely gone! Nothing! Nada!
To pass the time I arranged to go to the park with my son and some friends and their children. I looked up acupuncture to bring on labour and found a local lady that specialised in this and booked two treatments for Monday and Tuesday next week. For £80 she guaranteed this will work and would do any further treatments free of charge anything to avoid induction so this seemed very worth it to me!!
So after a nice morning and picnic lunch in the park we decided to go back to my friend Lisas house where we could get a comfy seat and cup of tea and the kids could continue playing in the garden.
It was 2pm and I just spoke to Darren in the car saying NO, nothing is happening could be sometime next week blah blah!!
Then as I crossed the road to go into Lisas house I felt a pop and water run down my leg!! OMG! Have I just wet myself??? Surely not I had just been to the toilet, but then I need to go a lot recently??
Luckily I was wearing a long maxi dress so my clothes were dry. Anyway I went straight to the toilet to check my knickers, and sure enough they were soaked through and sitting in the gusset was my plug.
OMG!! I started to quiver, my waters have gone SOMETHING IS HAPPENING!!!!
Lisa sorted me some disposable maternity underwear and pads and I called Darren back and then the hospital. They want me to go in asap, I had an appointment for 3.30pm.
Part 2 The Actual Labour
So at hospital we get seen, the nurse takes my BP, and listens to babys heartbeat, she feels HB is a bit fast so sets me up on a trace for that and also to monitor contractions.
I can feel water coming all the time and need to change pads.
She takes a speculum to check for GBS (I had this with my son and my son was infected at birth)
She wanted to check that my waters had gone; water came gushing out, so yes confirmed they have gone!! (Which I knew!!)
I was getting mild cramping that had progressed to mild contractions and the monitor confirmed that some contractions were happening.
The doctor came to speak to me about being induced. (or augmentation as they called as labour had started, but to speed things up because of this GBS thing) He said they could do it now or I could home and they will do it in the morning.
I didnt know what to do, I wanted to speed things up as I didnt like the thought of her not being protected now waters had gone, but really didnt want to be induced. I didnt feel like I wanted to go home either which was strange, as in my birth plan I wanted to stay home for as long as possible.
I felt more contractions coming and I started to time the contractions on an app on my I- phone.
Darren said from the monitor it looked like they were coming every 7 mins or so. (now I think he read it wrong) As due to the app it said every 2 mins or so.
They come round with food and I decided to get soup and a sandwich as I thought this was going to be a long night and I needed my strength up! Didnt really want it but forced it down !!
Anyway, they started increasing really, really fast.
I needed my tens machine which I had left in the car as we were not sure of I would have to stay in or not.
My mum then arrived and Darren went home to shower , change and have something to eat. (Thinking that I would be here all night!!)
Contractions felt really , really strong!! I went to the toilet, had diarrhoea (sorry tmi) I had such a sore bum!!! As also had been on the loo all day yesterday or after every time I ate had a clear out. Hospital paper was hurting my poor bottom so much!!
Plus had 3 strong contractions interrupted my poo!!
Got rigged up to tens, Contractions getting stronger, couldnt even use my app, was so frequent and intense.
Id stand up and lean o n the bed and count through the pain, I was doing my deep breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth continuously to help with the pain and pressing the boost on the tens when pain intensified. Trying not to tense up at all and keep my body as relaxed as I possibly could.
I d sit down just to catch my breath in-between contractions and relax until the next build up would start (*which felt like only seconds) Id stand up and count through the pain again.
My mum was trying to fan me or rub my back but I shook her off, I didnt want anything just to deal with it in my own way.
I started to feel sick, I remember in my labour with my son, the midwife said throwing up is a sure sign that you are in well into labour.
So yes I got one of those cardboard kidney shape bowls and yes up come my hospital tea!!
I asked my mum to get for someone, as I was sure things were moving quite fast. The nurse said they will be here in a bit and got me a fan as the heat was crazy on the hospital and adding to my discomfort and feeling sick!!!!
Quite a few more very strong and frequent contractions later the midwife or nurse not sure arrived and checked my cervix.
She couldnt find it!! She was reaching inside and poking and prodding and I was still having painful contractions and screamed out what are you doing??
She apologised and said she couldnt understand why she couldnt find it. Another mw or nurse came for a 2nd opinion and confirmed I was fully dilated they couldnt believe as I had been so relaxed!!!
They got a wheelchair and quickly wheeled me to the delivery suite and I started getting the urge to push.
Darren wasnt even back!! My mum rang him but didnt really explain I was ready to push just that we were now in labour ward., I couldnt really speak but was trying to say, tell him Im ready!! Im fully dilated!!
Anyway, I got on the gas and air , which after just tens, was really nice!! Id take a deep breath and the start of each contraction and then bear down and push.
Yay! Darren arrived. Once he was here it was like I could really give it all I got. In my head I was saying @ Get this FFing baby out@ !!!
I shouted and made noises, it felt like I was burning down below, OMG that hurt!!
The MW said that as I had an epitisomy with my son the scar tissue was not giving at all and MW said its a big baby!! So she cut me, as I really could not push anymore or stand that burning pain.
After the cut, a few more pushes the head was out, then I had to pant and push to get each shoulder and out and on last push she was here.
She was put on my chest and all was perfect - Just how id imagined it.
(none of the having my baby taken off me and rushed to SCBU like my son and not knowing if id ever get him back ok).
I was one very happy and very lucky Mummy, everything felt very surreal.
