Car seat advice

We moved Alex up into his next stage car seat a few weeks ago even though he still technically fits (height and weight wise) into his baby seat. We moved him because he looked so squashed and didn't seem comfortable any more. However we were getting a ERF seat, if we'd been going forward facing then I'd have kept him in his baby one as long as possible.

We got an Axkid Kidsofix, it's bloomin' expensive, but it can be rear facing until he's 25kg so it should last a while yet! It also has quite a good reclined position which is good as Alex still sleeps quite a bit in the car, and unlike some of the other ERF seats we looked at it seems to have quite a lot of room for his legs as he gets older.

EDIT: Hmmm, might not be so good for you, the front passenger seat has to be quite a way forward to fit it in (doesn't matter for us as I'm only 5ft 3in) and mostly I sit in the back with Alex anyway.

Our ERF doesn't have a base, it has isofix points attached to it.

The pram centre in East Kilbride does ERF seats.

Although there is also somewhere in Montrose that can order them I believe. X

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

Tweety the erf don't use a base

The besafe combi can be bought with or without isofix, but whenever you turn it forward facing, it is secured with the belt

Karate kid we have the combi and apart from it bring so big, it's great. It does recline on about 4 positions I think

A word of warning though- you def need to try then in your car as we found that we had to have the front passenger seat quite forward to fit it in rear facing, which left very little leg room

Mother are ( well certainly the larger ones) now stock the besafe combi

Thanks for this Xx

KK no other problems that I have noticed. One point to think about is that not all versions have the magnetic straps and in my opinion its a pain without them, we had to get the version with the non magnetic straps and I am already suffering...
Like all rear facing it takes quite a lot of a place so if you doth have quite a big car you should definitely try it to see if you are comfortable in the front seat with the car seat behind you. We have a range rover so a quite big jeep and I was a little uncomfortable on the front seat so I choose to sit on the back seat near Amelie.
No other problems that I noticed, the head dipping forward is the biggest one even at the maximum reclined position but I hope she will learn how to position her head. Until then I am constantly putting her head back while she is sleeping :faint:
Amelie is afraid/uncomfortable in it still and it has to do with the shoulder support that comes around her head just above her shoulder and I think she seems constraint by that huge thing around her. It's similar though to all the next stage car seats so nth particular to the Besafe one. I just have a little Madame...

Starting to think erf might be too big for my wee fiesta?

I'm sure there'll be one that fits - if you can't find a specialist place local to you then you could try emailing the Securatot people. We got our car seat from them and they were really helpful. I'm sure they could help over the phone or by email as you aren't local :)

My stupid HV told me to switch Ethan to his stage 2 car seat as soon as he hit the weight limit for his maxi cosi car seat at a weigh in (he was only 6 months old). I obviously didn't think twice about switching him, as you would've thought the HV would give current and proper advice!

If you do decide against the erf car seat, we have the maxi cosi priorifix and its fab xx

Well you would expect the HVs to know the correct guideline wouldn't you?! I just don't get it Hun, why wouldn't you standardise the role and information that HVs posses? That's for the heads up on the car seat xx

How hard is it to find stockist of these things!

I'm looking at the besafe izi Combi Isofix, but have a feeling it won't fit in my car, despite it being for "smaller cars" and being on the approved manufacturers list

It's a 5.5 hr car trip to MK!

Anyone have a fiesta and fancy going to MK for me

FYI, we ended up getting the be safe izzi combo belted version because it saved valuable inches of space. We have a fairly large car and the isofix version had the front passenger seat practically pressed up against the windscreen. Ours is well fitted and rock solid so I have no qualms about it. ERF really do take up a lot of space but I still feel much better for having it.

Using Tapatalk can't see no tickers grrrrr.

I was thinking this too - I was going by what secureatot recommended to be fair. Was thinking ditching the Isofix might save some space?

I'm determined to get one, now that I've done my research into their safety etc, I really don't want to be forced into getting a FF seat!

I can see either a trip to Sweden coming up (bigger selection) or a new car.

Not sure which would be cheaper

Fiestas are a pretty common car, so I'm sure if you email the people they would be able to give you a pretty good idea whether it'd fit as they'll have fitted them before :)

We got the belted version too for space reasons.
I suppose at least on that one we are lucky. ERF is the only type you find here...
Bloody expensive though and we even need 2....in my car a Toyota yaris is going to be rear facing placed in the front seat as otherwise of dosent work at all :wall:

I've sent off a few emails today ... Eagerly awaiting their replies :)

Why doesn't Scotland have anywhere like that! It's annoying

I'm seriously considering driving to MK

Have you got a John Lewis near you Tweety? They have the BeSafe Izi Combi in store or can order it in for you to try. Picked mine up yesterday Xx

Tweety I'll be interested to hear what replies you get. I drive a wee Yaris & think its too small for an ERF. The RF carseat is already a very snug fit. A new car isn't an option. :)
