Hi girls

I have read a few posts on here about breastfeeding.

Unfortunately I wont be able to breast feed due to a operation I had to have years ago and was told I would not be able to.

However I already feel guilty !! and reading some of the posts on here I know it will only increase in intensity and I will have to explain myself to people again and again.

I am dreading it!!

Hi there,
Just to let you feel better.
There are woman, relatives and friends who choose not to breastfeed their babies! so they do it by choice and not for any other medical or health reason. and some say they don't want to breastfeed so their boobies won't slag!!!
so don't worry honey, this decision is completely urs. and as u can't breastfeed for a reason then you should never feel guilty.
Formula is also good and there r many great healthy people who were only formula fed so never feel guilty. just take good care of ur baby.

Don't start worrying or feeling guilty. None of the females in my family could breastfeed, and there's nothing wrong with us who were bottle fed
:fib: :shakehead: (well nothing to do with being bottle fed that is  )
I think there is too much 'pc' pressure on woment to feel like they have to breastfeed these days. Sure it would be nice, but nothing wrong with a bottle either.

Hi Sunflower,

I'm not sure what kind of operation you had, but it might be worth keeping an open mind and trying breastfeeding after birth. I have read various posts on here and have friends, where women have been told they couldn't breastfeed, only to have their milk come in and to be leaking and obviously able to breastfeed after they have started to bottle feed their baby and it seems impossible to do anything else. To reiterate, this obviously depends on the type of operation.

I read somewhere else that you were having twins too (congratulations!), I have a very close friends who has twins who are now 1 and she did successfully breastfeed them - it was hard work, but very rewarding. There is a lot of support out there for breastfeeding twins - from NCT, La Leche League and your local breastfeeding support - might be worth checking out, just in case?
However, if breastfeeding doesn't or won't work for you, then don't waste any more time worrying about it - remember happy mum = happy baby.

Good luck

Dont feel guilty at all, breast feeding is a choice, not a demand. Your child will grow up just as happy and healthy as those children who were breasts fed

I agree totally!

Try not to get yourself worked up about it hun

I tried really hard to breastfeed Elliott but it really didn't work out for us, a combination of the hospital messing me up at the beginning, extreme tiredness and stress I think, I ended up so depressed about it that everyone was begging me to stop, even the midwife. It took me a while to get over the sense of failure but actually I needn't have felt that bad, formula was fine, my little boy had very few illnesses in his first year and continues to be bonny and bright as a button. It's great if you can do it (and I'll probably try again) but it's not a disaster if you don't :)

hi hun i just wanted to say that you shouldnt feel guilty if you phisically cant do it. as valentine said perhaps you could seek help (i dont know what op you have had obviously xx) noone should need explaining to why your not breastfeeding anyways.. its your choice.. and if it isnt a choice to feed then people should just mind their own business,... i would like to think all mums would like to give their babies colostrum at the minimum.. but if you phisically cant then you cant xxxx

Don't feel bad hun  I'm not going to be breastfeeding but thats through choice, the idea just does not appeal to me! Its nothing to feel guilty about and you don't need to explain yourself, don't let people make you feel bad

dont be made to feel guilty about this!! babies who are bottle fed, grow up just the same and are just as healthy as babies who have been breast fed hun
