Have been looking for a teddy for bumps first for ages but could never decide!*So yesterday oh suggested we go and build our own bear! Never been to that shop before but it was fab, we wanted something a browny colour and a bit scruffy looking! So we picked our bear an they fill it for u. We wanted it to be a bit floppy so the woman took some filling back out, then we both had to kiss this little heart which was put in an sewn up! I loveee it and family all think it's a really nice idea!

Didn't go as far as dressing it up though! Can make a birth certificate too but it asks for the gender of child it belongs to which obv we don't know yet so we keep the barcode safe and can go back when bump has arrived. Also as he/she gets a bit older we can go and have it filled up more so it can be dressed! Thought I'd let u all know incase anyone else wants to do the same!*

I did this as a present from my dd2 to my dd1 when she was born. She loved it, DD1 has always had a fascination with the name Sarah so we called the bear that and gave it the birth date of DD2's due date. We then dressed it up in a best friends t-shirt, denim skirt and bright red shoes (she loved wizard of oz at the time)

She still cuddles it now, and it's a nice keep sake. I love that shop just costs me a fortune when I go in it!

Aww that's a lovely present! I can see how it would cost a fortune too, the woman was like are u sure u don't want to chose an outfit? Seemed surreal we were talking about a bear! Can't believe the amount of clothes for a bear in that shop!

Yeah u could have sound put into it too! I heard one patent telling her little girl the sound machine was broke! Haha, poor thing.

That's a good idea too, we used to have a bear in a school I worked in that the children would take home for the weekend and write a diary about what they did with the bear! Amazing how much they got into it!

Hopefully bump will take to it!

i love build a bear shop :) i helped my friend choose a bear and outfit for her girlfriend at christmas was so much fun! i ended up dragging my OH in there to get some of the clothes for his mum for christmas, as she has a chinese hairless dog that wears clothes and build a bear do animal teddies the same size as MIL's dog! was so much cheaper then real dog clothing!

it's a lovely idea, think i might mention it to OH when he gets home from work! xxx

Haha while we were in there oh said 'heid I reckon some of these clothes would fit a baby' like as if he wanted to buy some! I'd never live it down turning up somewhere with my baby who was dressed the same as someones teddy!

My daughter loves build a bear when we went to Canada she had some money to buy herself a souvenir and she couldnt find anything she liked we popped into the build a bear there and they had a maple bear (big red maple leaves all over the bear) so she bought that and then my dad got her a hockey kit.
She has loads of the bears and she even had her birthday party there last year which was the best party ever (good price too). I have decided that im going to make her a bear from the baby and make a sister t shirt on it.

I've been looking at these for Odhrán I think they are fab! What you have done is such a lovely idea, I'm sure LO will love his/her teddy for years to come x

Songbird- Yeah I saw they did parties, I wasn't sure what it would be like! What is it that happens? Does the parent of the child pay for the children to build a bear or something?! I always just walk straight past the shop thinking it would be a rip off but seeing how people use them an make them for presents off siblings and stuff is really special! I'm really happy we did it now, feels more personal!

Febmumtobe- Thanks! I really hope he/she does!

The party last about a hour. They play games they did a hide and seek game hiding the bears the children had picked to make they then did a scavanger hunt , Claire says game, all while the children tooki it in turns to stuff their bears they then sat in a circle and all the guests kissed a heart to put in the birthday girls bear.

Each child went home with a bear they made and some stickers and balloon
Birthday girl got the bear she made plus a birthday bear which all the guests signed so did the lady running the party and a photo of all the birthday party guests with there bears.

There was a member of staff running the party all i did was sit down and take pics of the action

The best thing about this party was you set the cost you have to have a minimum of 6 children and you only pay the price of the bear and any accessories you want to buy.
Because money is tight i only allowed each child the choice of the 2 lower priced bears which were £9 each (turned out to be a good idea only having 2 to pick from as it took some a long time to decide which one)
The party cost me £54 for the build a bear
£10 on food did a party at my friends had chicken nuggets and chilps and soft drinks and the kids played in her pool

Best party ever and the cheapest

That sounds brilliant! Obviously I haven't got a child to throw a party for but i ask coz my oh's sisters little ones birthday is coming up an she was thinking about a wacky warehouse type thing coz she usually does stuff in the house and ends up cleaning up and finding things stuck in the carpet for weeks after! Thanks!
