I wanted to know how many others on here breast feed or are planning on breastfeeding until yesterday I was planning on breast feeding but after speaking to a few friends with young babies they all told me they've found it really difficult , I am now considering breast feeding for the 1st new days because of the colosturum but then moving onto formula and then expressing aswel can I do this, what are peoples thoughts on this? Xx

I plan to breastfeed although I never thought that I would have chosen that as I have always been drawn towards bottle feeding so I really don't know why I have changed my mind I guess it's hormones ! lol !!! I will give it a go and maybe express and use some formula so that my DH can be involved which I think is important plus I don't really fancy feeding in public.....will have to see what happens.

I'm hoping to breastfeed - going to give it my best shot... But I also know lots of people who have struggled, so will just have to wait and see!

Im breastfeeding, did with my other 2 so seems like natural choice to do again. Sometimes it can be difficult but once you get hang of positioning, latching on etc its quite natural. Totally your choice though hun whatever feels comfortable to you x

I'd really like OH to be involved with feeding and the idea of bf in public makes me really panic, think I may have to play it by here and see what happens x

Yeah - I'm not really comfortable with the idea of bf in public...

I have no problem with seeing other women doing it in public its just the thought of me getting everything out makes me really uncomfortable and panicky xxx

Ive been told that it is hard for the first 2 weeks. But there are loads of BF groups where I live, so I am going to go to them, and make sure I am doing it right.

Ladies i didnt like the idea of bf in public so i used to express milk before going out and take bottles of expressed milk out with me. xx

I was considering this but midwifesaid not to mix bottle and breast for atleast 6 weeks??? Surley if I give her expressed milk as much as possible it won't be too diffrent from bf, or am I being nieve? Thanks for all your replies by the way I really want to try and make an informed choice and I don't feel like such a bad person now :) x

Its to do with nipple confusion but my babies never had any problem with that. I used to make that much milk that my mw advised i expressed the excess as it would be a shame to waste lol. My 2 were never bothered what they had whether it was me breastfeeding or expressed milk from a bottle. I used to give at least 1 (even if it was only a couple of oz) every other day and my kids were fine about it. x

Im planning to breastfeed. Ive heard it can be quite difficult to start with, but if you persivere for a couple of weeks, and get some advice if its not working, then its a lot easier and a lot healthier than bottle feeding.

Not that id be judging anyone who went down the bottle route.

Listening to some of the girls on here, i kinda got the impression that a lot of people think because its natural you should be able to do it right away without any probs, but like anything else some mums'/babies need a bit of practice to get it. Think i'll try to percivere for at least a month if I can - but not beat myself up if i cant do it.

xxx

ps
You can get bottles that are advertised as being for switching between breast and bottle - there was a link on here for a free one - so i figure that would be a less confusing switch.

l Maclean- you are totally right, i found bf really easy with my daughter but not so much to begin with when i had my son even though i had done it before. You can get closer to nature bottles and teats that are really good. xx

I plan to bf. But then go on to express after a few months. I want to try to avoid formula if possible (not for any particular reason other then personal choice) but time will tell.xx

Definitely up for Breatfeeding...My older sister said its hard but once you get over those first few weeks its easy. I am determined to do it heres my list why...
1-because my other sister thinks i will just give up and switch to formula
2-it tastes SO much nicer than formula
3-No washing bottles (unless i express)
4-Better for baby
5-Convienent! :)

I think if you're gonna go through the first stages of BF then you might as well carry on! :)

I'm still BFing my 10.5 month old.

It is hard work at the start, takes alot of commitment and not all babies take to it naturally either, but the rewards outweigh the negatives of it defo.

The first few months are the hardest, but once you get into it, it's easy and obviously free lol

xxxx

I'm planning on breast feeding as long as poss-until I go back to work or even after if I can juggle it. It's so hard to say how we r all going to get on with it but my advice would be to try it for at least a month and see if u want to carry on or not....best to keep an open mind either way and not to stress about it either way!

Im totaly confused does anyone know you can express enough to just give expressed milk? I Know its diffrent from person to person but is it possible? x

i THINK the more you feed/express the more milk comes in.

I think maybe expressing my be the best thing for me if it works obviously I will try natural breastfeeding first thank you ladies :) x
