Breast pump recommendations!

Any recommendations for electric breast pumps? I have always tried to breastfeed with varying success. I ended up buying a medela swing with ds1 in a bit of a panic after struggling with the tommee tippee manual one. Unfortunately I sold the medela after ds2 thinking I wouldn't need it again.
Having only ever used the medela and one in hospital I don't have any comparison. Any amazing must haves (or must avoid) out there?

Medela is good. You can also hire hospital grade pumps, there are an umber of websites that do it but it depends on how long you intend to pump for as to whether it works out cheaper to buy one outright.

It depends if you really think you'd use it..

Are you going back to work soon?

I would wait until breastfeeding is well established (around 3 months) before pumping anything
But I always used mine!
I had four horses when I had my first/second so often had to ask someone else to feed while I was riding or mucking out.
My son also would only feed off one side sometimes so it helped relieve the engorgement, I did get mastitis a few times and sometimes it can be less painful to pump and just give that extra push to remove the blockages.

This time I want to exclusively breastfeed and only use the pumped milk for emergencies/relief so I've opted for the mother care manual pump which is only £10!!

La Leche League are on Facebook and often have their pages set up according to area, they are a wealth of information and a godsend x

It will be my first child so I am quiet overwhelmed with tons of informations.

I do plan on breast feeding all the way through. I will have a look at what you suggested, that might do the trick for me!

If it's your first time I'd definitely wait until you get the hang of it...it can be super tricky to get used to and you will most likely need some help along the way, I always needed my mum and the breastfeeding group leaders take any and every bit of help you can!

It's also helpful to remember that midwives and health visitors are often not specialist in this subject so it's best to go to a feeding expert with any issues/advice x

You don't need one. I bought one last time and I used it when dd was four weeks old as I was going to a wedding she wasn't invited to and I didn't want her to have formula. After that I kept expressing for a while so husband could give her the odd bottle but tbh it was a bit pointless and I gave up and just fed her myself. I got a fairly good yield so froze some for use in food when she was 6m but it's wasn't necessary really

I'll take every bit of advice on board. I'm trying to read alot in regards of what do I actually really NEED for the baby and it seems like every day something else comes up and then I stop and think "do I REALLY need this or is it just an extra?"

I was thinking (might be silly) but what if I am ill and from what I understood I should need breastfeed the baby at that point...what am I supposed to do?

First thing the midwife said to me "if you are planning on breastfeeding the baby, do NOT under any circumstances give the odd bottle because otherwise the baby would not take it from you anymore" ....so logically I was thinking what to do if I am ill and literally can't feed the baby? Is that something I would need the breast pump for? Pump it and freeze it? (can I even freeze my milk?) So many questions...

Yes you can freeze it for 6m

Yes if you were too poorly to feed baby you could pump and feed but that's not very likely to happen so if that is something that's on your mind then buy a manual pump and save yourself some money then if worse came to worse you could buy an electric one. Chances of that happening are slim

I got the electric tommee tippee and would definitely avoid it! I used it whilst pregnant (trying to bring on labour) and seemed fine. Once breastfeeding tried to express with it a few times and the rubber part that squeezes the nipple is soooo painful and damaging. I have managed to avoid having to pump luckily.
Next time I will be investing in a better one
