 Hi girls,

I had my scan yesterday and all if fine with baby, thank god.
At my booking in appointment, after the scan, the midwife told me that i am classed as a high risk patient because i have MS (multiple sclerosis). I am fine with that as hopefully i will just get extra support through the pregnancy and labour but i'm just wondering if anyone has any experience of being high risk and what it entails? The midwife seemed a bit rushed so i didn't want to probe her about it too much! I have an appointment with the consultant obstetrician next week.

Thanks for any advice or info'.

Dee. xx

My friend at work was classed as high risk just meant more scans and closer monitoring xx

I'm sure they will just want to keep a closer eye on you and the babys needs, if anything you should
Hopefully got VIP treatment!

Glad you feel fine. I'd relax and take full advantage of the extra care if I was you. Hopefully just means that you'll get to see your bubs more often.

As far as I am aware it means that you will be seen sometimes by the midwife and sometimes by the obstetrician during your pregnancy, rather than just by the midwife. You may have more scans, not sure though. And they would recommend that you give birth in a hospital rather than at home.

Yeah, she did say that she wouldn't recommend a home birth and that i may need to stay in hospital a little longer than normal after the birth. There was no mention of more scans but she did book my 20 week there and then and booked me in to see the obstetrician next week.
It's just a bit un-nerving when your told your high risk but not told what this high risk is!! lol.
Thanks girls, i appreciate your replies. xx

Hey Dee I have Lupus (and I'm old!!) and was told in my last PG that I would be classed as high risk and would have consultant led treatment from the off. This means my Lupus/RA consultant has to confer with the Gynae doc on every part of the PG. More scans and tests along the way too.

No home birth for me either (thank goodness) and I probably won't be allowed to go full term - more like a C section at 36 weeks.

HTH

I am high risk too, i have to have daily stomach injections :(

and lots of consultant appointments... the joys
