Baby Ryan arrived with a bang on Bonfire night!
Weighing 9lbs 2oz and measuring 62cm - don't think he'll be in his moses basket v long
Labour itself was a pretty fab experience, didn't feel like it at the time but does when I look back on it now
It was pretty quick apparently for a first labour although I'll have to read all your other birth stories again to believe that. Bounced on a gym ball from start to finish! Was 2cm dilated when they went to induce me at 6am, had a pessary and by the time OH arrived at 11am I was having regular contractions. By 1pm I was in the labour suite 4cm dilated and loving the gas and air. At 4pm I gobbled some tea and toast before having a jab of diamorphine at half past 4. At half 6 I was 9cm dilated so was forced off my beloved green gym ball and they popped my waters. Pushing then commenced and at 7.37pm, just as the fireworks display was starting outside Ryan flew out into the world with a heck of a lot of water! He's 9lbs 2oz and 62cm long which I think it pretty long as the hospital cots are only 66cm
Everything was fab and Ry had a good feed from me but when Daddy went out to phone around with the good news, things went a bit haywire. I had a post-partum haemmorage due to the placenta not coming away properly and lost nearly 2 litres of blood from that and a 2nd degree perinium tear. Ended up having a spinal and being whisked away to theatre to stop the bleed. Spent the night attached to drip, monitor and catheter and numb from the waist down just staring at his gorgeous little face in the cot next to me. Unable to move to pick him up or stroke his cheek which was horrid
Midwife came a few times to attach him for a feed but never got a proper chance for a cuddle.
I then developed post-natal high blood pressure and had to be kept in the high dependency ward as they were concerned I was developing pre-eclampsia. A combination of very little sleep, the aftermath of labour and a reaction to the bp drugs they put me on left me hallucinating and not very well for a few days. The first drug made my neck and limbs go numb and the second send the whole world spinning. Following this I hought the hospital was spying on me and drugging me to make sure I was doing everything right with baby! Not a nice experience. Finally came back to feeling my normal self yesterday and was allowed home today although BP still high - finally found a drug that doesn't send me tripping so hopefully it will stablise soon.
Other than that Ryan is a wee gem, bottle feeding now as Daddy had to take over baby care in the day room during much of my days of confusion. Been a stressful week, especially for Daddy having to leave us every night but just delighted that bubba is fine, he's feeding and happy and content!
