anyone got any tips/ help for baby constipation??

Layla hasnt been for a poo since sunday night, its now tuesday, shes trumping away like a trooper, plenty of wet nappies, but no poop, i can tell its hurting her cos she is straining and trying to do one.... just nothings coming out, i really dont want to phone the OOH midwifes but dont really know what to do to help her

oh on sunday she became a bottle fed baby and has pooped since, but only on sunday, im guessing its the formula making her a bit blocked up, but need to help her now,

any ideas?

Poor mite :-(

Gently massaging her tummy and rotating her legs as though she was riding a bicyle (don't force them though) is said to help.

Good luck x

thanks ladies,

il try the bycle thingy now and then some water, something has gota help, she is still sleeping tho after her bottle so its only sporadically that she is in pain im guessing :-/

Good luck sweetie - hope she goes soon! x

warm bath and bicycle legs helps also cooled boiled water inbetween feeds. I used to put a tiny bit of pure apple juice in the water just to colour it as the sugar helps them to poo xxx

If the constipation continues I'd suggest trying a different formula, we had terrible problems with Aptamil!!

Which Milk did u switch to Megsmeadow. My son is also having constipation with Aptamil. I have tried giving him water and moving his legs but not much of help. The doc is still not recommending any medicine. Is it worth moving to aptamil comfort...any ideas..

my dd has been constipated since 3 months she now 11 and still dont go lol buy ready made formular it has more lactose in which aids going cooled water for eXTRA fluid as it also aids and rub her back do the leg thing afyter a feed as this more likely when thet go as feeding stimulates bowels

Loveleen we changed to Cow and Gate which really helped, he started poo'ing once every two days. Then we started adding colief for his colic and that helped him go every day. Then we moved to SMA gold because he was becoming really sicky and still fine on his bowels. He's now on SMA staydown for the sickness but we've also started weaning early and he can have 2-3 dirty nappies a day now!
I'd definately try a different brand before looking at the specialist milks. Really helped our LO!

It could just be the switch to formula, it's a lot harder to digest than breastmilk, you will notice the poo is much harder when she does go. Massage the tummy in a clockwise direction, warm baths, cool boiled water and you can give one teaspoon of pure orange juice to five teaspoons of boiled water for 3consecutive days. Good luck xxx

Oh and if you notice her straining to go, hold her upright and raise her thighs (like she is sitting on the toilet), it can help. Zach was the same when we switched to formula, he was in agony trying to go, really hysterical, we even ended up at the hospital because he was so hysterical for hours! It gets better as her body gets used to digesting the formula xxx

Thanks a lot ladies..I will give a try to other formulas and see what happens..hoping one of them suits him..

We had the same problem with Oliver yesterday and decided to change his formula from Aptamil to Aptamil Comfort and have had 2 dirty nappies today and he seems alot more settled this evening too!!
We tried cooled boiled water but you would think that we were trying to poison him...the faces he pulls and then spits it out when he realises its not his dummy or milk!

The GP referred us to the hospital today so i took him as he did not pass his poo for 5 days. They examined and put a repository which helped him poo in 2 hours. They have also asked me to give him lactolose for 2 weeks and shift to aptamil comfort...has anyone given lactolose before to young babies..my son is 5 weeks today..:)

Yep I put earlier on in the post that I did it works and it good :)

If you aren't keen on the medicine, baby massage and reflexology can help. X

It's only like a thicker sugar water the lactose is :) I didn't like the other stuff they give us like suppositories and didn't use them only gave her 2ml a couple of times too to whether started found she didn't need it after that :)
