Sorry, for the impending post but i'm pissed off and could do with a little advice!

Luckily at my 36 week appointment yesterday the normal community mw wasn't there so i saw another member of the team who was lovely.

As she was going through my notes she said 'i can see you've had your 28 week bloods done but we don't have the results yet' I explained that the hosiptal told me the mw had to call for them but Angela (normal mw) had said 'no they'll send you a letter if there is anything wrong'. She called for the results and lo and behold, my iron levels are at 10.2 meaning i need iron tablets, and should have been on them from 4 weeks ago!

Obviously this is not that serious but I can't help but think what if it was something more serious and she just hadn't called for the results and something had happened to the baby?! The fact that i told her the hospital had told me that she needed to call for the results, and she specifically said no that's not right, proves it wasn't an oversight ... she either couldn't be arsed or just doesn't know the correct procedure and ignores instruction from others.

Luckily, she's off for my next appointment in a couple of weeks too, but i really don't want to see her again at all... i've lost all confidence in her (not that i had that much to begin with, we never had much of a raport). Do you think i should say something?

sorry youve had a bad experiance hun. not sure only you can decide if u wanna say something. you must feel let down. were you feeling unwell at all?? i would probably just ask to see the midwife you saw today instead of the normal one. im not one for confrontation but up to you hun. sorry i havent the answer but hope u feeling ok xx

Personally I couldn't say anything cos I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to standing up for myself! But I guess it would be good if you could inform someone in case a similar thing happens to another woman and it's something serious. Good luck if you choose to say something, good on you if you do!

Thanks both, that's the problem, i don't generally like confrontation either and would normally just keep my mouth shut but like you say becky, it could be something more serious for the next lady and i'd feel awful if that were to happen.

My next apointment i'll be seeing someone else so might mention it to them and just see what their reactions like before i go in all guns blazing, i know they're all busy and look after a large amount of women so don't mean to pile on the crap! But also, worry that the level of care required is not there...

Thanks for the replies :) just needed a bit of a vent!

Honestly I feel the system is really pants at the moment. Some care or no care , but not good care that's for sure. I would not say anything myself, but I would chase up everything personally by calling the surgery etc each time results were due from now on. I have had to do this.

I got a call 2 days after my last midwife appointment at 27 weeks, saying I needed to pickup a iron prescription from the desk as my levels were down to 9. I got it, but didn't take any as I was still trying to unbung myself from the last lot! Then 5 days later I had a unplanned 28 week check at hosp as refered by midwifes for being small for dates. They took my bloods too! I went back for my 3 week checkup to hosp and they told me iron was up to 11!!! I did politly ask if that was the 23 week results, as that was 11! and she said oh no the last time you came!! so Now I don't know what my real iron is! (It can take ages to boost your iron, not 5 days without iron tablets!!)

I now have no more appointments from 34 weeks till I go for preop tests on 30th dec at 38 weeks, what happens if they say my iron is low then! do they postpone the section i have booked after xmas? bit late to find out then, just like in your case Mikid!!

sorry , supposed to be helping you - but I do despair
