Hi all,

I'm 40+1 with my first baby, and desperate not to have to go down the induction route. A friend of mine was induced on Monday, and all her hopes for a calm, mobile, natural birth went right out the window. Also, my SIL went 10 days overdue with her first baby and almost lost him as a result (he inhaled meconium).

So - I am looking for ways to induce labour naturally in the next week or so. Trying all the usual things - pineapple, sex, curry, walking, bouncing on ball, etc. etc. Now someone has recommended acupuncture as being really effective.

As I've never had it before - but am certainly very open to it - I was wondering if anyone had used it to try and induce labour? And if so, was it effective?

Thanks ladies!

Ive heard Reiki can do a similar thing as well, dont know much about it to be honest but im sure there will be loads of info on the web.

Hi

I've had loads of accupunture and i find it very effective. I'm 38 weeks at the moment and have started having reflexology, its very relaxing and they can work on points to induce labour. You should try it! Had some yesterday and had cramps and next sessions on Tuesday.

As for accupunture, this can also help but its not relaxing.

I meant to say reflexology not Reiki

I had acupuncture before and during TTC, really reaped the benefits. The first session I thought would be the last as honestly I'm a bit sceptical of alternative medicines etc but boy she finished and told me to sit up slowely etc and I burst into tears (very not me!) and she said it was the huge rebalancing of my hormones which according to her had been everywhere - wow, for a few hours afterwards I was a bit shakey and so tired, I booked to go the following week and had about 3 months worth of sessions, I stopped when I fell pregnant and she left to go up north so I'd not have continued with the bloke there anyway but gosh yeah I really rated it and I'm soooo skeptical of these things I wouldn't recommend it if I didn't think there was something in it. I've not tried other alternative therapies but would certinally embrace them without hesitation since the accupuncture went fantastically. Oh and she actually relieved me of my hayfever that summer too...what a blessing. If it returns this summer I'll be finding another lady to go to for an anti-hayfever session or two.

biggest tip: find someone you gel with, pointless going if you don't relax in the therapist company (and they will meet you before a session if you wanna check them out) find someone registered, and often specialising in the area you are intersted in, some specialise in pregnancy, others weight and allergies etc....I found my therapist through BACC http://www.acupuncture.org.uk/

my husband is studying a 3 year course on accupuncture so im hoping to use it for the birth, i know i used it for morning sickness and it really helped i also wear pressure bands for sickness.
