Hey,

I've just been reading online an come across using antihistamines when TTC and how they can lower fertility because they can dry up CM.

I've never realised before or even thought about it to be honest.

I have really bad allergies to pretty much everything lol dust, water, animals, pollen etc. If I don't take antihistamines I get sore eyes, nasal problems, hives, and they set of my asthma.
We've recently got a kitten for my daughter aswell. It sounds stupid but when I take my tablets I can deal with a cat in my home. Now I would have no Chance and you get really bad symptoms. So I really can't stop taking them now.

I'm taking fexofenadine 180mg (strongest) and I've been advised to sometimes take over the recommended dosage and take two daily if I need them.

Does anyone else use antihistamines and they havnt caused a problem?

I've never noticed a problem and I do get all types of CM. So do you think I will be okay taking them?

I've conceived and delivered One healthy daughter whilst taking them (though I stopped when pregnant). And since I have had a miscarriage and chemical. So obviously I can get pregnant. But I'm wondering if the medication could have caused complications with my last two pregnancies.

I am going to speak to my GP and ask them to change them to something else.

Thanks any advice will be appreciated xx

Hi hun, I developed a skin allergy after taking penicillin for tonsillitis, had massive red rashes appear if I went outside, if it rained or if I had a shower. I was on antihistamines for a month but can't say I noticed any difference in cm. Sorry I can't be much more help. I think your doing the right thing going to see your GP xx

Thank you.

I haven't noticed any change in CM either. That's why I'm confused.

I'm going to book in on Monday for a medical review. Hopefully there is something else they can offer me.

Xx

There are hundreds of different antihistamines, I would think as you already conceived on yours they might be ok but definitely get your Dr to check it out just to be on the safe side. Have you read through the leaflet that comes with the antihistamines ?, usually it will tell you in there if they're safe to take during pregnancy or ttc x

I will do thank you :)

When I read online it did say that fexofenadine can affect fertility. But obviously it can't happen to everyone otherwise I wouldn't have conceived 3 times. And like I said I haven't noticed any change and I am definitely getting CM.

I know you can't take it when pregnant. Which is why I stopped last time.

Thanks again :) xx

Well if it affects fertility, not that it appears to have with you, and not to take when pregnant I would definitely get them changed to different meds, just in case x

Thank you :) I will see my gp xx

I take them everyday cetrizine (or something like that) I was taking them before I conceived my son as well.
I've conceived 4 times in the last year so don't think it's causing any issues.

Would be interested to hear what your GP had to say, please keep us updated xx

I will do :)

I've heard that piriton can cause the same problems. I'm sure piriton is cetrizine. I've tried it but it doesn't work for me.

Good luck TTC! Xx

I take cetrizine. My gp said fine to take when ttc and pg (I've also been told to take far more than the usual dose when my allergies have been particularly bad). I've not had any issues with cm, I don't take it every day though, for example I'm not taking it at the minute as it is so windy I don't need to (I'm allergic to animals and work on a farm).

I may speak to the doctor about cetrizine and ask if I could take more. Fexofenadine is lot stronger and I sometimes need to take 2. So It will probably just be trial and error.

I'm hoping I will get used to the kitten. I have in the past. I grew up with dogs and cats and they never bothered me. But other people's animals kill me off! Haha

I can deal with some of the symptoms but hives are the worse! I had them really bad when I was pregnant.

Thanks for your help xx

If we had a house pet I would have to take mine all the time and I suspect I would still be miserable! We do have cats and dogs but they never come in the house, it is the only way I can live with it!

Hives are awful aren't they, I occasionally get them very badly and have to take a really high dose to make them bearable!

Defo have a chat with your gp as there are loads of different options for allergies.

I'm still taking my antihistamine whilst ttc and my mast cell stabiliser otherwise I'd be miserable without it x

Also at one point my immunologist prescribed me 3 times the normal dose of levocetirizine. My GP wouldn't prescribe it so I had to pay privately x

Thank you :) my Gp is very good usually. So if I can't take my fexofenadine I will ask for something else. If it doesn't work she would refer me to a specialist anyway. We have spoke about it before.

Xx
