Had the 20 week scan this morning - little one was wriggling like crazy, so it took a while for the sonographer to get all the measurements. The placenta is anterior, as I suspected, hence tricky to feel the movements properly.
There's some problem with the right kidney, which was measured as dilated to 13mm ( if I can read the handwriting on the form properly), and they've said something about possible cysts present in the kidney. I was sent to see a doctor in fetal medicine who said they couldn't confirm anything yet, but they've scheduled me in for another scan on Wednesday when the kidney specialist is present.
Needless to say, it's all just been quite upsetting, had to take the rest of the day off as just kept bursting into tears, although I've generally been like that this last week with hormones - I've been worrying all the way up to this scan that they might find something wrong!
I just don't know what to think - I suppose we just have to wait and see what the specialist says, as it's been quite vague today. Anybody out there with any experience like this?

You must feel really upset and worried, and rubbish that you now have to wait a few days to find out what's happening.I haven't had the same experience but worked with someone who had the same thing, then when they rescanned at something like 30 weeks it hasn't got bigger and all was ok! Try not to worry, although I know easier said than done.Sending hugs

Oh hun, you must be feeling so worried. I'm sure all will be OK. Don't panic until you know what's going on for certain, it could be nothing but they have to be so careful these days so they check everything out. :hugs:

Hey hun sorry to read this I can't imagine how you must be feeling. Iv got my scan Wednesday afternoon I'm also pretty worried they will find something. Really hope the specialist will be able to give you some information and enlighten you as to what's happening.
Big bugs x

Sorry to read that it sounds stressful. I hope you get answers on Wednesday. I've heard cycsts can often go away by themselves by time baby is born - my daughter had numerous scars on both kidneys (after a very bad infection at age 3) and a recent scan showed they had healed themselves. I think cysts are very common and many people don't even know they have them!! Ultrasound machines pick up on everything these days. Good luck for Wednesday I'm sure all will be fine xx

Thanks for the support and positivity boosts. Going to try to stay on the positive side until we hear what the kidney specialist has to say on Wednesday. Just concerned me that they seemed to act so quick on getting us in for another scan, after the sonographer said they'd probably just have to do an extra one at 34 weeks!

The only thing I can think of is that, at the beginning, I mentioned in my family history a chromosome disorder than a cousin of mine has - they'd made a note of that on the form from today. But I seriously doubt that this problem has anything to do with that disorder. Still, they have mentioned to be prepared that they might offer an amniocentesis test and to consider if I might consent to that if the need arose. I yet have no idea what I'll do about that - I understand there's risks involved... I don't know if they could perhaps use the harmony test instead as I hear that's safer, but I'll have to just ask if they can gain the information they need from that, once I establish why they'd even want to offer that.

On the up side, the sonographer did make a point of saying that everything else is fine and normal - measurements are all bang on average on the charts, and the left kidney seems absolutely fine.

As for the gender... well... we remained team yellow as we intended ;)

Oh, and was going to say good luck for Wednesday Blueclass - I'm sure finding some problem isn't that common and you'll be fine - let us know ;)
You'll probably be in that one at the same time as we're in ours!

Hi Hun, I don't know if it's the same thing but my nephew had 1 kidney significantly maller than the other on his 20wk scan (something to do with dilation of the tube) he's just turned 4 now, as a baby he had regular scans and has had a dye put through but it is still not 100% but his other kidney functions fine and as a person can survive with one kidney there's nothing they will do unless his good kidney stops functioning-this is unlikely to happen. I think he's now just seen once a year for a check up xx

Mines at 3.10 hate that it's in the afternoon x
