i didnt write down the date when melissa first smiled. i didnt write the date when she first laughed. first rolled, first sat up, first pulled herself up, first steps! first word! i mean i probably mentioned all of them on here so could perhaps find out with a bit of dedicated searching (thru my 10,000+ posts!) but i havent kept a record- all of these things have been observed with glee and i was thrilled when i saw each one happen its not like i dont care! but idk i feel a bit inadequate sometimes coz i havent kept a baby milestone book!

some of them are quite confusing (was just reading littlepip's post about sitting up) like walking, for example- millie has taken two steps by herself but she didnt realise she was doing it and cried and sat down when she noticed lol. she will still only walk if someone holds her hand.

and speech! first word what does everyone count as first word?! millie like i think most babies said "mama" when she was 7 or 8 months old- but it had no meaning, so does it count??? she didnt say "mama" referring to me, it was just the sound so i dont kno if it counts. she says mama and dada all the time but she has never looked me in the eye or pointed at me and repeated it, therefore obviously understanding the word! she points at the cat and says "dat!" but im still not sure about whether she knows its a cat and is tryna say cat or if its just a co-incidence that she makes a noise similar to the noun 'cat' :?

i feel like im *supposed* to understand her when she talks her toddler-gobbledegook so i feel bad coz i dont!

or is this normal (i hope so!)

im so glad u did this post , i felt the same after lilpip post ! i havent wrote it either but prob ave mentioned here , and when do u count them as walking ? leland already takes a few unsupported steps with his walker? and holding hands , and tbh altho i think he sat at 6 months i dony know the date as he went from slouching over ( im sure i got a pic of this so could find out when he did this) to upright kinda overnight !

and ive even forgot to measure him for his 7 month bday :wall:

im a bad mum too !

I have a baby journal for Leif but unfortunately it doesn have all the dates etc in it either :( It says things like "about 6 weeks" etc. As for things like the first word i havent written that down at all as i dont really know what to class as his first word cause he says a few differant things.

I feel bad that i havent written it all down exactly to but if we did we would have to have pen and paper ready at every second, especially now they are getting older and learning so quickly.

i wouldnt worry about it trix, all the LOs are growin so quick and into the nx thing that its hard to keep a record of absolutely everythin that happens lol!

I never wrote down what Tia's first word was.. She didn't start talking until two and it was such a big thing her talking yet I never put down what she said... :(

This time I've been a bit more regimented about things... I've recorded everything I could...but even saying that I haven't recorded dates on everything more ages because babies very rarely don't do something one day and the next do it... they seem to work up to things... so how can you say when they sat or when they said their first word if they'd been practising for days before they actually do it so to speak....

Plus it when you notice it for the first time not when they actually do it. !!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have a baby book too (in fact 2 ) and I haven't recorded exact dates either for things :(

Mind u I've only really got rolling over and smiling and laughing

I had a baby book for James, but never bothered to fill it in, now I've completely forgotten when he took his first steps, first word etc
I've not even bothered buying a baby book this time for Logan, MIL is not impressed, she has OHs cord stump, teeth, hair etc and can't understand why I haven't

As for the talking, I couldn't understand James for ages, I just used to smile and say encouraging words to pretend I did. I do think the first mama and dada are just sounds unfortunately.

I always forget and every few months (aloth its been about 6  ) fill it in and make up the dates :rotfl: :rotfl: not totally but say if I know something was 'begining' of June I would put maybe on 6th june blah blah lol so its round about the right time lol

Dont worry about it and now 100% deffo does NOT make you a bad mummy!!

Oh and I put orans first steps the first time he took A step unaided although I did/will put for example

@ 7 months walked with your walker
@ 10 months walked holding our hands and anything else
@ 1yr 1.5 week (I rem this as the week we came back from hols lol) walked 4 steps unaided his 1st proper steps
@ 1yr 2.5 weeks was walking properly unaided
@ 1yr 4month was starting to run (clumsy though!)

Just so I have a rough guide for any future kids or when he has kids as Ive asked my mum loads about when me and bro did this or that!

I do have babybooks for both mine and have wrote in them but not necessarily when things happened and so most dates are just age in months, nothing specific, I also use the red book, it has some milestones in it which are real easy to just look at every now and then and see which doesn't have a date on, and does LO now do it? heehee I'm rubbish at remembering things so I feel I have to write these things down, like I couldn't tell you when Isaac first sat up, or ate food, or anything, that's why I write it down, but it doesn't make you a bad anything!!! It will just be a nice bit of nostalgia to give them when they're grown up, it's not something you'll think about often at all

My mum remembers when I walked and what I first said, and she didn't have a book for it. She remembers about my brother and sister too - all stored in her memory. I won't remember a date, but I will remember an age my baby did things at, and how. How could I forget her first word was my horse's name :D My husband was so sure her first word would be 'Daddy!'

Ive written down his first smile but thats about it! I will probably write in his baby journal about him sitting up for ten seconds on the 17th but its really hard to know when to count it from! I mean when there 16 are they gonna really worry about weather weve written down the exact date they sat up?? walked or talked? lol
